Northeast India Tour Packages — The Seven Sisters & Sikkim
Holiday Vibez curates Northeast India tour packages across all eight states — from Meghalaya's mist-draped hills to the high-altitude monasteries of Arunachal and the rhino-rich floodplains of Assam. Northeast India is a region unlike anywhere else in the country: geographically connected to mainland India only by the 22km-wide Siliguri Corridor (the Chicken's Neck), culturally closer to Southeast Asia and Tibet, and ecologically among the most biodiverse places on Earth. Meghalaya — "Abode of Clouds" — is where rain is not weather, it is the landscape: Cherrapunji (Sohra) and Mawsynram are the two wettest places on Earth, and the extraordinary Living Root Bridges are the Khasi tribe's response — bridges grown from the aerial roots of Indian rubber fig trees over 500 years, now UNESCO-nominated. The Dawki/Umngot River at the Bangladesh border is so transparently clear that boats appear to float in mid-air above the riverbed. Assam's Kaziranga National Park (UNESCO, 1985) protects 2,613 great one-horned rhinoceroses — two-thirds of the entire world population — across a landscape of tall elephant grass, marshland and semi-deciduous forest flooded every monsoon by the Brahmaputra. The park's elephant-back safaris at dawn, with rhinos grazing 10 metres away, are one of the most extraordinary wildlife experiences in India. Sikkim, India's smallest state and its only Buddhist-majority one, sits beneath Kanchenjunga (8,586m, the world's third highest peak): Gangtok's cable car views, the electric-blue Tsomgo Lake at 3,753m altitude, and the 200+ monasteries make it an Himalayan destination of extraordinary beauty. Arunachal Pradesh's Tawang Monastery (1681), at 3,048m, is India's largest Buddhist monastery and the second largest in the world after Drepung in Lhasa — its location on a ridge overlooking the Tawang valley, with snow-capped peaks visible in every direction, rivals any monastery in Tibet or Bhutan.
Getting there: Fly to Guwahati (GAU) — the main gateway — from all major Indian cities. Alternatively fly to Bagdogra (IXB) for Sikkim. For Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland, Indian nationals need a permit (Inner Line Permit or Protected Area Permit) — these are easy to obtain online or at entry points and we include the process in all our packages. Best seasons: October–April is ideal for most NE India (post-monsoon clear skies, wildlife active). The Hornbill Festival (Nagaland, December) and Tawang Festival (October) are unmissable. Avoid June–September monsoon for road-heavy itineraries, though Meghalaya at its wettest is unforgettable.
