Agatti Island Tour, Lakshadweep
The airport island wrapped in one of Lakshadweep's longest, most beautiful lagoons
Agatti is the natural starting point for almost any Lakshadweep holiday, because it holds the archipelago's only airport. Long and slender, the island is fringed by one of Lakshadweep's most striking lagoons, a shallow sweep of turquoise ideal for snorkelling and swimming. Most trips begin here before you transfer on to Bangaram, Kadmat or other islands, and many travellers happily stay put and let Agatti's reef and beaches fill their days. It is relaxed, small-scale and quietly beautiful.

Suggested itinerary
Land at Agatti after the scenic flight from Kochi and settle into your cottage. Spend the afternoon on the beach and enjoy your first lagoon swim.
Snorkel the house reef, try a glass-bottom boat ride and kayak across the shallows. The clear water and coral fill an easy day.
Relax on the sand, take a guided dive or a reef walk, and watch the sun set over the lagoon in the evening.
Transfer by boat to a neighbouring island, or fly back to Kochi from Agatti to continue your journey.

How to reach Agatti
Agatti has Lakshadweep's only airport, so you fly Kochi to Agatti on small ATR aircraft with limited seats. Travellers from Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad and elsewhere connect through Kochi first, as there are no direct flights from other cities. From Agatti, boats and speedboats transfer you on to Bangaram, Kadmat and other islands.
Why most trips start here
Because Agatti is the gateway, nearly every Lakshadweep itinerary begins on the island, even if you are heading elsewhere. That makes it the logical place to acclimatise, complete transfers and enjoy your first lagoon before moving on. Many travellers find the lagoon so good they simply stay.
Where to stay
Accommodation on Agatti is in simple cottages and small guest properties rather than large luxury hotels, in keeping with the island's eco-sensitive character. Rooms are comfortable and close to the beach, with meals typically included. It is understated island living, which is very much the point.
Things to do
Days on Agatti revolve around the water and the reef.
- Snorkel the shallow house reef and lagoon
- Try scuba diving at the island's dive centre
- Take a glass-bottom boat ride or kayak the shallows
- Walk the beaches and watch the sunset over the lagoon
Entry permit and best time
An entry permit is mandatory for every visitor. Holiday Vibez assists with and arranges it as part of your package, subject to government approval, so apply 15 to 30 days ahead with ID proof, photographs and a police clearance certificate. Visit between October and May for calm seas and clear lagoons; the monsoon from June to September brings rough seas and suspended transfers.

Real stories from real journeys
Thousands of families and couples across South India have travelled with us — here's what a few of them had to say.
Travelling with my parents and two kids, I was nervous. Holiday Vibez planned every single day perfectly, and the Alleppey houseboat was the highlight. We are already planning our next trip with them.
Best price I found anywhere, and the desert safari and Burj Khalifa tickets were all sorted before we even landed. The team was on WhatsApp whenever I had a question.
The Gulmarg gondola, the shikara ride on Dal Lake — exactly like the photos, no surprises at all. By the end of the trip our driver felt like family.
Booked a fairly last-minute Phuket trip and they still got me a great deal with visa help included. Honest, smooth and genuinely helpful people.
Scuba at Havelock was a dream come true. Every transfer and every hotel was exactly as promised. Worth every rupee, and I have already recommended them to friends.
