Getting to Lakshadweep from Your City

Lakshadweep has one airport — Agatti — and one mainland seaport, Kochi. So whichever city you start from, your trip routes through a gateway. Here is what that actually looks like from the cities we are asked about most.

Kochi Nonstop
Direct flight to Agatti, roughly 1½ hours
Kochi is the main gateway and the only mainland port the passenger ships sail from. Alliance Air, IndiGo and Fly91 all fly the route, so it has the most seats and the most flexibility if a day slips.
Bengaluru Nonstop
Direct flight to Agatti
IndiGo has flown Bengaluru–Agatti since 2024. It is the only nonstop to the islands from outside Kerala, which makes Bengaluru the natural gateway for travellers from Karnataka, Hyderabad and further north.
Kozhikode (Calicut) One stop
One ticket, connecting at Kochi
IndiGo sells Kozhikode–Agatti as a single booking, but the aircraft routes through Kochi — it is a connection, not a nonstop. Worth knowing before you plan the morning, because the two legs are not back to back.
Chennai One stop
Connect at Kochi or Bengaluru
There is no nonstop from Chennai. Both gateways work; Bengaluru is the shorter hop, Kochi gives you more onward flights if you need a fallback.
Coimbatore, Madurai & Tamil Nadu One stop
Connect at Kochi
Kochi is close enough that many families drive or take the train down the evening before and fly out rested the next morning, rather than risk a same-day connection.
Thiruvananthapuram & south Kerala One stop
Connect at Kochi
No nonstop from Trivandrum. Kochi is a few hours by road or rail, and the overnight-before approach is the usual, calmer choice.

Going by ship instead

Passenger ships run by the Lakshadweep Administration sail from Kochi to the islands and take somewhere between 14 and 20 hours depending on the vessel and the island. They are booked on the Administration's own portal, not through travel agents, and berths in peak season go months ahead. If sailing is the part of the trip you want, start planning early — that is the single thing that decides whether it is possible at all.

The entry permit — plan around it

Every visitor who is not an islander needs an entry permit, including Indian citizens and NRIs. It is applied for on the Administration's official ePermit portal, and the guidance is to apply at least a fortnight before you travel. Since 2026 you no longer need a police clearance certificate or a local sponsor; security verification is handled by Lakshadweep Police once you have applied. Your permit names the specific islands you may visit, and you cannot island-hop beyond them.

Permits are granted by the Lakshadweep Administration alone. No travel company can obtain, speed up or guarantee one — anybody who tells you otherwise is selling you something they do not control. What we can do is get your dates and paperwork moving early enough that the permit is not the reason your trip does not happen.

Routes and permit rules checked July 2026. Airlines change schedules — confirm before you book flights.

Lakshadweep — Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a permit to visit Lakshadweep?
Yes, an entry permit is mandatory for all visitors to Lakshadweep. Holiday Vibez arranges the permit for you as part of your package, along with the documents needed, so there is nothing extra for you to organise before your island trip.
What is the best time to visit Lakshadweep?
October to May is ideal, with calm seas, clear skies and excellent underwater visibility for scuba diving and snorkelling. The June to September monsoon brings rough seas and travel disruptions, so it is best avoided. Holiday Vibez plans your dates around the calmest conditions.
How do I reach Lakshadweep?
You can fly to Agatti island, connected via Kochi, or take a passenger ship from Kochi, with boat transfers between islands. Routes and seats are limited, so early booking helps. Holiday Vibez arranges the flights or ship, the permit and all island transfers for you.
How many days are enough for a Lakshadweep trip?
Around three to five days lets you enjoy the lagoons, scuba or snorkelling and island-hopping across Agatti, Bangaram or Kadmat at a relaxed pace. Holiday Vibez tailors the length to your interests, whether it is diving, honeymoon calm or a family beach holiday.
Is Lakshadweep good for a honeymoon or family holiday?
Yes. The calm lagoons, secluded islands like Bangaram and gentle water sports suit both honeymooners and families. Holiday Vibez arranges private, comfortable stays, transfers and activities, and shapes the itinerary around a romantic escape or an easy-paced family island holiday.
