Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Tromsø better than other places for Northern Lights?
Tromsø sits at 69.6°N — well within the Auroral Oval, the ring around the magnetic pole where Aurora Borealis is most intense and frequent. It combines three key advantages: it’s dark enough from early October to mid-March for Aurora viewing, it has an unusually mild climate for its latitude (keeping roads and skies clear more often), and it has excellent infrastructure for Aurora tourism with expert local guides who use real-time satellite cloud data and Kp index monitoring. Our success rate in Tromsø is approximately 85–90% over 2 attempts.
Is the Geirangerfjord better than the Nærøyfjord?
They are different and both extraordinary — and this package gives you both! Nærøyfjord (Day 4) is the world’s narrowest fjord — the intimacy of 1,500m walls rising from the water on both sides creates a profound sense of being contained by the earth. Geirangerfjord (Day 5) is wider and more dramatic in scale, with the magnificent Seven Sisters waterfall cascading directly into the fjord. Most travellers who experience both say Nærøyfjord felt more enclosed and mysterious, while Geirangerfjord felt more cinematic and vast.
What visa do I need for Norway?
Norway is a Schengen member. Indians need a Schengen Tourist Visa, applied through the Royal Norwegian Consulate (VFS Global). Fee approx. ₹7,500. Processing: 10–15 working days. Since Norway is your sole destination, apply to the Norwegian consulate in India (offices in New Delhi and Mumbai, with VFS Global collection points across the country). Holiday Vibez provides complete documentation support. Apply 6 weeks before travel.
Is Norway vegetarian-friendly?
Norway is reasonably vegetarian-friendly, especially in Bergen and Oslo where international restaurants are plentiful. Norwegian cuisine is heavily seafood and meat-based, but vegetarian options are available in most restaurants — vegetable soups, cheese and bread, pasta, and salads. Bergen and Oslo have dedicated vegetarian and vegan restaurants. Tromsø has fewer options but international restaurants serve vegetarian dishes. Always carry a few snacks from India (instant noodles, etc.) as Norwegian food prices are extremely high.
What’s the difference between this and the Scandinavia Grand Tour?
The Scandinavia Grand Tour covers 4 countries (Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland) in 12 days with 1–2 nights per city — a broad overview of Nordic culture. This Norwegian Fjords & Aurora Explorer is a deeper, more immersive Norway-only experience in 8 days. If you want to see all of Scandinavia, choose the Grand Tour. If Norway — specifically its fjords and Northern Lights — is your dream, this package gives you more time and depth in Norway alone, including both Geirangerfjord and Tromsø. If budget allows, we recommend doing both over separate trips!

The Flåm Railway was extraordinary — I have seen many lists of ‘world’s best train journeys’ and dismissed them as tourist marketing. Not this one. When the train stopped at Kjosfossen waterfall and a woman in red appeared dancing in the spray with Norse music playing, my wife grabbed my arm. Then Nærøyfjord by ferry — the walls closing in on both sides — like sailing through the inside of a mountain. Then Tromsø on Night 1, the guide says ‘look up’ and the sky turned green. We cannot find adequate language for what we saw. This is the greatest trip of our lives. Holiday Vibez: exceptional.

I chose this package over the full Scandinavia tour because I specifically wanted the fjords AND the Northern Lights together — and this was the perfect decision. Geirangerfjord took our breath away — the Seven Sisters cascading from 500m height directly into the water while our boat sat below — impossible to photograph adequately. Tromsø was extraordinary — we saw the lights on BOTH nights! The Sami reindeer experience was an unexpected highlight — the connection to a 4,000-year-old way of life in the Arctic tundra was deeply moving. Norway alone deserves this focus. Book it.

We did this for our 30th anniversary and it could not have been more perfect. Bergen in the snow is like stepping into a Hans Christian Andersen story. The Bergen Railway through the Hardangervidda plateau — vast, silent, lunar — is unlike any landscape we’ve seen. Tromsø with whale watching in the morning and Northern Lights at night — same day — was completely overwhelming. Our guide in Tromsø was magnificent — he found us a clear sky patch when clouds threatened and the lights were the strongest we’d hoped for. Norway exceeded Iceland for us. Holiday Vibez made it flawless.
