What visa do I need for Italy?
Italy is part of the Schengen zone. Indians need a Schengen Tourist Visa applied through the Italian Consulate (VFS Global). Processing: 10–15 working days. When is the best time to visit Italy?
April–June and September–October are ideal — pleasant weather (20–28°C), fewer crowds than peak summer. July–August is hot (30–38°C especially in Rome and Amalfi) and very busy. Amalfi Coast is best May–October. Venice is magical year-round. Avoid August in Rome if possible — many locals are on holiday and it’s scorching. Spring and autumn are our top recommendations.

Is Italian food suitable for Indian vegetarians?
Absolutely! Italy is one of Europe’s most vegetarian-friendly destinations. Pizza Margherita, pasta al pomodoro, risotto, bruschetta, supplì (Roman fried rice balls), and fresh Italian salads are all vegetarian. Florence has excellent porcini mushroom pasta and ribollita soup. Venice has incredible fresh vegetable dishes from the Rialto market. Always say ‘sono vegetariano/a’ (I’m vegetarian) at restaurants — Italians are very accommodating.
Can I add Cinque Terre to this itinerary?
Yes! Cinque Terre (the 5 colourful cliff villages on the Italian Riviera) is perfectly located between Florence and Venice — you can add a 1 or 2 day stop there. Italy exceeded every single expectation. The Sistine Chapel made me literally cry — I had seen pictures but nothing prepares you for seeing it in real life. The Amalfi Coast was the most dramatically beautiful place I have ever seen. Positano clinging to the cliffs above the turquoise sea was surreal. Venice’s gondola ride at sunset was pure magic.
