Sikkim Honeymoon Packages — The Himalayan Kingdom of Love
Holiday Vibez curates Sikkim honeymoon packages spanning the state's four zones — East Sikkim's alpine lakes and China border passes, North Sikkim's high-altitude rhododendron valleys and sacred lakes, West Sikkim's Kanchenjunga viewpoints and ancient monasteries, and South Sikkim's Buddha parks and tea gardens. Sikkim became India's 22nd state in 1975 and remains its smallest, greenest and most romantic. The entire state is a protected area — no large-scale industries, plastics are banned, and organic farming is state policy — which is why it looks nothing like mainland India: the valleys are impossibly green, the air smells of cardamom and rhododendron, and the roads wind through forests of bamboo, magnolia and tree fern. Gangtok (1,650m) is the capital: a compact hill town with the famous MG Marg pedestrian promenade at its heart, lined with bakeries, thangka shops and Tibetan tea houses. The Rumtek Monastery (4km south, the seat of the Karma Kagyu sect of Tibetan Buddhism) is the most important monastery in Sikkim. The Gangtok ropeway gives a 360° aerial view of the city and the Himalayan ranges above it. Tsomgo Lake (Changu Lake, 3,753m) is the most visited lake in Sikkim — 40km from Gangtok on the Old Silk Route road, the glacial lake is surrounded by steep mountains and frozen in winter, its water changing colour with the seasons: steel-blue in spring, emerald in summer, dark azure in autumn. Decorated yaks wait for rides on its shore. The onward road leads to Nathula Pass (4,310m), where the India–China border is marked by a fence and soldiers of both countries stand 50 metres apart — only Indian nationals can visit (foreigners are not permitted). Yumthang Valley (3,564m, North Sikkim) is Sikkim's Valley of Flowers: in March–April, the slopes are carpeted in 600+ species of rhododendrons — red, pink, white, purple and yellow — in one of India's most spectacular floral displays. The Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary covers 43 sq km of pure rhododendron forest. Beyond Yumthang, Zero Point (Yumesamdong, 4,428m) has permanent snow cover even in summer — couples play in the snow, then warm up at the natural hot springs at Yumthang below. Gurudongmar Lake (5,183m, North Sikkim) is the third holiest lake in Tibetan Buddhism, on the border with China. The road to reach it is one of the highest motorable roads in India — the lake is frozen for 8 months of the year and is sacred to both Buddhist and Hindu pilgrims. Pelling (West Sikkim, 2,150m) is the Kanchenjunga viewpoint: on clear mornings, the world's third-highest peak rises directly above the town, its snow pyramid catching the pink dawn light in a view that requires no photography to fix in memory.
Getting there: Fly to Bagdogra (IXB) near Siliguri from Kolkata (1 hr), Delhi (2.5 hrs), Mumbai (3 hrs). Take train to New Jalpaiguri (NJP) from most major cities (many night trains). From NJP/Bagdogra to Gangtok: shared taxi 4 hours (₹250/seat) or private cab (₹2,000). Permits: PAP (Protected Area Permit) is required for Nathula Pass, all North Sikkim areas (Lachen, Lachung, Gurudongmar, Yumthang, Zero Point) and some West Sikkim areas. Indian nationals can get online at sikkim.gov.in or we handle it for you — ₹200–400 per person per zone. Best seasons: March–May — rhododendron season in Yumthang (peak March–April), clear views; September–November — post-monsoon, clear skies, Kanchenjunga crystal clear; December–January — snow in Gangtok, frozen Tsomgo Lake, magical winter feel. June–August — monsoon; North Sikkim roads often blocked.
