Spiritual Family Packages — Dev Bhoomi, Land of Gods
Uttarakhand contains more sacred Hindu sites per square kilometre than any state in India. The state is called Dev Bhoomi — Land of Gods — because it contains the sources of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers, 5 of the 12 Jyotirlingas, the full Char Dham circuit (Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, Badrinath), the Panch Kedar (5 manifestations of Shiva across the Garhwal Himalaya — Kedarnath, Tungnath 3,680m the highest Shiva temple in the world, Rudranath, Madhyamaheshwar, Kalpeshwar), the Panch Badri (5 Vishnu shrines), and Jageshwar Dham — a complex of 124 stone temples in a deodar forest in the Kumaon hills, collectively the most complete assemblage of medieval Nagara-style temples in North India, some dating to the 7th and 8th centuries CE. Panch Prayag are the 5 sacred river confluences on the route to Badrinath: Vishnuprayag, Nandprayag, Karnaprayag, Rudraprayag, and Devprayag (where Alaknanda meets Bhagirathi to form the Ganga). Patal Bhuvaneshwar near Gangolihat (Kumaon) is a cave temple 90 feet underground where stalactites and stalagmites are venerated as natural representations of all major Hindu deities. All spiritual packages include priest-accompanied darshan assistance, accommodation at dharamshalas and guesthouses on the yatra routes, and dedicated yatra support.

Uttarakhand Family Tour Packages — Dev Bhoomi, Land of Gods
Holiday Vibez curates 20 Uttarakhand family packages — 5 dedicated spiritual circuits, 5 budget, 7 classic, 3 luxury — spanning the Garhwal pilgrimage circuit, the Kumaon lake district, the wildlife reserves, and the high-altitude adventure valleys. Uttarakhand (53,483 sq km) is called Dev Bhoomi (Land of Gods) because it contains the source of both the Ganga and the Yamuna, more major Hindu pilgrimage sites than any other state, 5 Jyotirlingas, the complete Char Dham, the Panch Kedar, the Panch Badri, and hundreds of ancient stone temples. Char Dham Yatra (Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, Badrinath) is the most sacred Hindu pilgrimage circuit in North India — it opens in April/May (dates announced by the Char Dham Devasthanam Management Board based on auspicious Vedic calendar dates) and closes in October/November after Diwali. Kedarnath (3,583m, 22 Jyotirlingas including this one) has a stone temple whose main chamber contains a saddle-shaped rock formation worshipped as a natural Shiva lingam — believed to be the hump of a bull (Nandi) that submerged into the earth to escape the Pandavas. The 16km trek from Gaurikund to Kedarnath through the Mandakini valley ascends 1,500m and is one of the great pilgrimages of Indian religious life. The helicopter service (Phata, Sirsi, Guptkashi → Kedarnath helipad, 7 minutes; book at heliservices.uk.gov.in) is essential for elderly or mobility-limited family members. Panch Kedar is the circuit of 5 temples where 5 different body parts of Lord Shiva are believed to have appeared as he tried to evade the Pandavas by hiding as a bull: the hump at Kedarnath, the face at Rudranath, the navel at Madhyamaheshwar, the arms at Tungnath (3,680m, the highest Shiva temple in the world), and the hair and head at Kalpeshwar. The complete Panch Kedar circuit (14 days) requires trekking to all 5 shrines and is one of the most challenging pilgrimages in India — our family packages use helicopter assistance for Kedarnath and vehicle access where possible. Jageshwar Dham (1,870m, 36km from Almora, Kumaon) is a complex of 124 stone temples set in a deodar cedar forest that has been sacred for over 1,200 years — the oldest temples date to the 7th century CE (Gupta period), the largest is the Lakulish Temple (9th–10th century), and the main Jageshwar Mahadev Temple (Nagara style, 12th century) is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas according to some traditions. The walk from the car park through the deodar forest to the temple complex is one of the most peaceful religious experiences in Uttarakhand — the forest is dense enough that the temperature drops 5°C and the sound outside disappears. Patal Bhuvaneshwar (near Gangolihat, Champawat district) is a cave temple accessed by 90 feet of near-vertical descent through a 3-metre wide fissure in the rock — inside, stalactites and stalagmites are worshipped as representations of all major Hindu deities including a 100-foot-tall naturally occurring Shish Nag (cobra). The Shankaracharya is said to have described this cave as the combined embodiment of all four major pilgrimage sites. Haridwar and the Panch Prayag: the 5 sacred river confluences on the Char Dham route (Vishnuprayag where Alaknanda meets Dhauliganga, Nandprayag with Nandakini, Karnaprayag with Pindar, Rudraprayag with Mandakini, and Devprayag where Alaknanda meets Bhagirathi and the river becomes the Ganga) are among the most visually dramatic religious geography in India — at Devprayag the two rivers arrive with completely different colours (one blue-grey from glacial silt, one green-clear) and mix gradually over 2km below the confluence point.
Getting there: Delhi → Haridwar: Jan Shatabdi 12055 (5.5 hrs, ₹830 AC). Delhi → Kathgodam: Ranikhet Express (6 hrs, ₹380). Delhi → Ramnagar: Corbett Link Express. By road: Rishikesh 240km, Nainital 285km, Ramnagar 230km. Seasonal notes: Char Dham opens May, closes October/November; Valley of Flowers open July 1–October 31; Jim Corbett core zones closed July 1–October 15; Jageshwar, Patal Bhuvaneshwar and Kumaon temples open year-round. Kedarnath helicopter: heliservices.uk.gov.in (book weeks ahead). Corbett safari: corbettonline.gov.in (45 days advance for Dhikala zone).
