Lakshadweep is one long invitation to get into the water. Between scuba diving, snorkelling, kayaking and glass-bottom boat rides, the coral reefs and turquoise lagoons are the main event, while island culture on Minicoy and Kavaratti adds depth beyond the beach. Whether you want to swim a shallow lagoon, drift on a sunset dhoni or hop between islands, this is your highlights hub. Here are the experiences worth building a trip around.

Water sports and diving

Diving is the star of Lakshadweep. Beginners can try guided discover-scuba sessions, while certified divers explore deeper reefs at Agatti, Kadmat and Bangaram. Snorkelling, kayaking and reef walks round out the water activities, all best enjoyed in the calm, clear dry season.

Gentle lagoon experiences

Not everything means going deep. The sheltered lagoons are ideal for easy, low-key fun.

  • Lagoon swimming in warm, shallow water.
  • Glass-bottom boat rides over the coral.
  • Kayaking across calm turquoise flats.
  • Sunset dhoni rides on a traditional boat.

Island-hopping

Each tourist island has its own flavour. Agatti anchors the lagoon experience, Kadmat draws divers, Bangaram and Thinnakara suit honeymooners, and Kalpeni, reached mainly on the Samudram cruise, offers coral-debris beaches and three islets. Speedboat transfers make it easy to sample more than one.

Culture on Minicoy and Kavaratti

For a break from the water, the islands hold real cultural interest. Minicoy, the southernmost island, has a Maldivian-influenced Mahl language, tuna culture and a tall lighthouse. Kavaratti, the administrative capital, is known for its marine aquarium, mosques and the Kavaratti lagoon.

Good to know before you go

The islands are eco-sensitive and largely dry, with alcohol permitted only on Bangaram, so pack light and tread gently. Carry cash as cards and ATMs are limited, and use an Indian SIM such as BSNL for the best signal. A mandatory entry permit is required, which we assist with arranging, subject to government approval.

Travelling with my parents and two kids, I was nervous. Holiday Vibez planned every single day perfectly, and the Alleppey houseboat was the highlight. We are already planning our next trip with them.
