Dwaraka Tirumala is a hill temple of Lord Venkateswara in Eluru district (formerly West Godavari), Andhra Pradesh, known across the Telugu states as "Chinna Tirupati" — the smaller Tirupati — because pilgrims who cannot make the journey to Tirumala offer their prayers and vows here instead. Its most distinctive feature is in the sanctum itself: two idols of the same Lord stand together. Tradition holds that the sage Dwaraka found a self-manifested idol in an anthill of which only the upper half was visible, the lower half remaining in the earth, so a second, complete idol was later installed behind it so that the full round of ritual worship could be performed. The temple stands on a low hill with a five-storeyed Rajagopuram facing south and three smaller gopurams on the other sides, and the deity here faces south rather than the usual east.
November to February is the comfortable window — the Godavari delta is hot and humid the rest of the year, and the Giripradakshina (hill circumambulation) falls in January while the float festival, Teppotsavam, is held in November. The two Tiru Kalyanotsavams, celebrated in the months of Vaisakha (April–May) and Aswayuja (September–October) for the two idols, are the biggest crowd-pullers of the year and the temple town becomes genuinely packed; elders travelling then should plan for long standing time and heat.
Rajahmundry is the nearest airport, roughly 75 km away; Vijayawada (Gannavaram) airport is about 100 km. For trains, Eluru is the practical railhead at about 42 km with good express stops, while Bhimadolu is the closest small station. By road the temple is reached off the Vijayawada–Rajahmundry corridor, and APSRTC runs buses to Dwaraka Tirumala from Eluru, Vijayawada, Bhadrachalam and Hyderabad; taxis from Rajahmundry or Eluru take roughly one and a half to two hours.
The temple sits on a hillock. Vehicles can go up a short ghat road, but there is still a modest flight of steps to the entrance, so elders and anyone using a walking stick should be prepared for a short climb. Traditional dress is expected, as at any Venkateswara temple. Darshan and sevas run to the temple board's own schedule, which changes on festival days — confirm with the Devasthanam before you travel.

Why is Dwaraka Tirumala called Chinna Tirupati?
Because it is regarded as a smaller Tirupati. Devotees who are unable to travel to Tirumala fulfil their vows, offer donations and have their family rituals such as tonsure and Kalyanotsavam performed here instead. The name is popular usage, not an official rank.
Is it true that there are two idols in the sanctum?
Yes. Tradition holds that the self-manifested idol found by the sage Dwaraka showed only its upper half, so a second full idol was installed behind it to allow complete ritual worship. This is also why the celestial wedding, Tiru Kalyanotsavam, is performed twice in the year — once for each form.
Can we visit Dwaraka Tirumala and Annavaram or Rajahmundry in the same trip?
Yes, it fits comfortably into a Godavari-belt circuit. Rajahmundry is about 75 km away and is the usual base or arrival point, and many families combine the temple with a Godavari river visit. Allow a full day so that you are not rushing darshan.
Can darshan be booked or arranged in advance through a tour operator?
No. The temple Devasthanam runs its own queues and seva arrangements, and no travel company can obtain, reserve or speed up darshan. We can arrange your travel, stay and transport to the temple; the queue is the temple board's to manage.
