The Sri Veera Venkata Satyanarayana Swamy temple stands on Ratnagiri, a low hill above the Pampa river in Annavaram, Kakinada district of coastal Andhra Pradesh. The deity is Satyanarayana, a form of Vishnu, and the sanctum holds a tall cylindrical stone form that temple tradition reads as the Trimurti together — Brahma at the base, Shiva in the middle, Vishnu at the top. The present shrine was consecrated in 1891 and largely rebuilt in 1933-34, and its most distinctive feature is that the main structure is shaped like a chariot, with a wheel carved at each of the four corners. Most families come not only for darshan but to perform the Satyanarayana Vratam here, the vow-ritual for which this hill is the best known centre in the Telugu-speaking states.
November to February is the most comfortable stretch — coastal Andhra is humid the rest of the year, and the hill is pleasant in winter. The biggest occasion is the Kalyanotsavam, the deity's celestial wedding, held over several days in Vaishakha month (usually May); it draws very large crowds in real heat, so elders may find it hard going. Karthika Masam (November), Ekadashi days and weekends are also heavily crowded, since Ekadashi is considered the most auspicious day for the vratam.
Annavaram railway station is about 2 km from the foot of the hill and sits on the busy Vijayawada–Visakhapatnam main line, so most trains on that route halt there. The closest airports are Rajahmundry, roughly 80 km west, and Visakhapatnam, about 120 km north-east; Kakinada is around 50 km away. By road the town is on NH-16 with frequent APSRTC buses from Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Kakinada and Tuni (about 18 km), and a ghat road runs 3 km up Ratnagiri so cars, autos and temple buses can reach the top.
There are about 460 stone steps if you walk up Ratnagiri, but the hill also has a motorable ghat road, so elders and anyone who cannot climb should plan to go up by vehicle rather than on foot. If you intend to perform the Satyanarayana Vratam, it is done in traditional dress and usually by a couple seated together; arrange it directly with the Devasthanam and confirm the day's arrangements with the temple before you travel.

Can we perform the Satyanarayana Vratam at Annavaram, and how is it arranged?
Yes — this is the main reason most families come. The vratam is booked and conducted through the Devasthanam's own counters at the temple, with priests provided. Bookings, the number of slots and the materials supplied are decided entirely by the temple board, so contact the Devasthanam directly before your trip to confirm the current procedure. No travel agent can reserve, arrange or hasten a vratam or a darshan on your behalf.
Do we have to climb the steps, or can elderly parents reach the temple by car?
You can reach the top by vehicle. A 3 km ghat road runs up Ratnagiri and cars, autos and Devasthanam buses use it, with separate up and down roads. The flight of roughly 460 stone steps is optional and taken by devotees who wish to walk up.
How far is Annavaram from Visakhapatnam and can it be done as a day trip?
Annavaram is about 120 km from Visakhapatnam on NH-16, roughly two to two and a half hours by road, and it is a regular halt on the Vijayawada–Visakhapatnam railway line. A day trip is quite feasible; if you plan to perform the vratam, allow extra time and check the temple's own schedule beforehand.
