Draksharamam, in Andhra Pradesh's Konaseema region (carved out of the old East Godavari district), is the temple of Bhimeswara Swamy — Shiva — and it holds two ranks at once. It is one of the five Pancharama Kshetras, and it is also counted among the Ashtadasha Shakti Peethas, where the goddess is worshipped as Manikyamba. The temple is attributed to the Eastern Chalukya king Bhima and dates to roughly the 9th-10th centuries CE; its walls carry a large body of early Telugu inscriptions that scholars still study. Its most distinctive feature is the sanctum: the linga is unusually tall and the shrine is built on two levels, so pilgrims climb to an upper gallery to worship the upper portion of it.
November to February is the comfortable window — the coastal Godavari delta is hot and humid from March to May, and wet through the June-September monsoon. The two big occasions are Maha Shivaratri (February or March), when the temple is at its most crowded and the wait can be long for elderly pilgrims, and Dasara / Devi Navaratri (September or October) for the Manikyamba shrine. If you want a quiet darshan with older family members, pick an ordinary weekday in the winter months rather than a festival day.
The nearest airport is Rajahmundry (Madhurapudi), roughly 60 km away by road. The closest railheads are Ramachandrapuram, about 8-10 km from the temple, and Kakinada Town, about 28 km; Rajahmundry Junction, around 50 km away, is the better-connected station for long-distance trains. By road the temple is about 28 km from Kakinada and about 50 km from Rajahmundry, with regular APSRTC buses, shared autos and taxis on both routes; the last stretch is a short village road and taxis go right up to the temple.
The sanctum is on two levels and the upper portion of the linga is seen from a first-floor gallery reached by a flight of stone steps, which some elders may find steep — the ground-level darshan is available without climbing. Traditional dress is expected, as at most Andhra Shiva temples, and men are customarily asked to remove shirts before entering the inner sanctum. Confirm darshan and abhishekam timings with the temple before you travel, as they change on festival days.

Is Draksharamam a Jyotirlinga?
No. Draksharamam is not one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. It is one of the five Pancharama Kshetras of Andhra Pradesh, and separately one of the eighteen Ashtadasha Shakti Peethas through the Manikyamba shrine. Pilgrims often visit it as part of a Pancharama circuit along with Amararama (Amaravati), Somarama (Bhimavaram), Ksheerarama (Palakollu) and Kumararama (Samalkot).
Can a travel agent arrange special or VIP darshan here?
No. Darshan and seva queues are run entirely by the temple administration, and no agent can obtain, reserve or speed up entry. What a tour operator can genuinely arrange is transport, a stay nearby and the rest of the Pancharama route. For anything to do with sevas or timings, contact the temple directly before you travel.
Can Draksharamam and the other Pancharama temples be covered in one trip?
Yes, and most pilgrims do. All five are in the Godavari and Krishna delta belt and are commonly covered over two to three days by road, usually basing out of Rajahmundry, Kakinada or Bhimavaram. Draksharamam and Kumararama at Samalkot are the closest pair and are often done on the same day.
