Antarvedi is a coastal Vaishnava kshetra in Konaseema district, Andhra Pradesh, where the Vasishta Godavari — one of the Godavari's main distributaries — empties into the Bay of Bengal. The temple enshrines Vishnu as Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy, the man-lion form, seated with Goddess Lakshmi. Tradition holds that Sage Vasishta performed penance here and that Narasimha killed the demon Raktavilochana at this spot, the spilled blood forming the Raktakulya stream that pilgrims still count among the sacred waters here alongside the sea, the sangam, the Vasishta river and Chakratirtham. The defining feature of a visit is the place itself: pilgrims bathe at the sangam where river and sea meet before taking darshan, and the temple is one of the best-known Narasimha shrines on the Andhra coast.
November to February is the comfortable window — the coastal humidity eases and the sangam is pleasant in the mornings. The biggest draw is the ten-day Kalyanotsavam in the Telugu month of Magha (usually late January or February), beginning around Ratha Saptami, with the Swamy's Kalyanam on Magha Shukla Dashami and the Rathotsavam on Bhishma Ekadashi. Those festival days are genuinely packed — tens of thousands come from across the Godavari districts, and elderly travellers may prefer a quieter week either side. Avoid the May–June heat and the heavy monsoon months of July to September, when boat crossings can be disrupted.
The nearest airport is Rajahmundry (Madhurapudi), roughly 100–110 km by road. The closest railhead is Narsapur, about 20 km away by road via the Chinchinada bridge, or around 10 km if you cross the Vasishta Godavari by ferry and continue by auto; Palakollu station is about 35 km. By road Antarvedi is roughly 65 km from Amalapuram, about 100 km from Rajahmundry and about 130 km from Kakinada, with APSRTC buses and taxis running from Narsapur, Palakollu and Amalapuram.
Antarvedi sits at the tip of a river delta, so the last leg is either a bridge detour or a ferry crossing of the Vasishta Godavari — plan for that, especially with elders, wheelchairs or heavy luggage, and expect ferry services to be unreliable in rough monsoon weather. Accommodation in the village itself is limited (a TTD choultry and small lodges); most families stay at Narsapur or Razole. Darshan and pooja timings, and the festival programme, change year to year — confirm with the temple devasthanam before you travel.

Is Antarvedi a one-day trip from Rajahmundry?
Yes, it is commonly done as a day trip. Rajahmundry to Antarvedi is roughly 100 km by road, about three hours each way depending on the route and the ferry, so an early start leaves comfortable time for a sangam bath and darshan before returning.
Can we take a holy dip where the Godavari meets the sea?
Yes — bathing at the sangam of the Vasishta Godavari and the Bay of Bengal before darshan is the customary practice here. Do it only at the marked bathing area, stay in shallow water, and keep children and elders accompanied; this is an open river mouth with currents, not a controlled ghat.
When is the Antarvedi Kalyanam and should we plan around it?
The Kalyanotsavam falls in the month of Magha, usually late January or February, with the marriage ceremony on Magha Shukla Dashami. It is the most atmospheric time to visit but also the most crowded, with long waits and scarce rooms. If you are travelling with elderly parents, a non-festival visit is far easier. Exact dates shift each year, so check with the temple before booking.
