Leh sits at roughly 3,500 metres, so nearly every itinerary begins here with a rest day. That acclimatisation is not optional padding, it protects you against altitude sickness before you climb higher to Khardung La, Nubra or Pangong. The town also has the region's best hotels, cafes and medical support, making it the natural hub for onward drives.

Most travellers fly into Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, with direct and connecting flights from Delhi and other metros. The overland routes from Manali and Srinagar are spectacular but long and only open in the warmer months. We tailor arrivals to your group and always schedule a rest day after flying in.
Leh is at its best from May to September, when the roads to Nubra, Pangong and Tso Moriri are open and the days are bright and dry. Nights stay cold year-round, so pack layers even in summer. Winter visits are possible for the truly hardy but many high passes close under snow.
