Founded in the 14th century, Diskit is the spiritual heart of the Nubra Valley. Its whitewashed halls climb the hillside, filled with old statues, murals and prayer flags, while the towering Maitreya Buddha below has become an icon of Ladakh.

Diskit lies around 120km from Leh, reached by crossing Khardung La into the Nubra Valley, roughly a five to six hour drive. We provide a private vehicle and experienced mountain driver for the journey.
May to September is the ideal window, when Khardung La is reliably open and the valley is at its most inviting. Winter travel is possible on clear days but depends heavily on the pass and weather.
An Inner Line Permit is required for Nubra and Diskit, which we arrange. Take it easy for a day in Leh before crossing Khardung La, carry warm layers and stay well hydrated at altitude.
