A Ladakh road trip is one of India's great overland adventures, winding through the highest motorable passes on the planet and along rivers the colour of the sky. With Holiday Vibez you travel in a well-maintained vehicle with an experienced mountain driver, so you can watch the Himalayas roll by instead of the road. We build a sensible day-by-day route that acclimatises you to the altitude before the big drives, and we arrange the inner-line permits you'll need for restricted areas. Best enjoyed between May and September when the passes are open and the weather is kind.

Suggested itinerary

Day 1
Arrive Leh & rest

Land in Leh and take it slow to acclimatise to the altitude. A gentle evening stroll through Leh Market is all that's planned.

Day 2
Leh sightseeing

Ease in with local drives to Shanti Stupa, Leh Palace, Magnetic Hill and Sangam. Short outings help your body adjust before the high passes.

Day 3
Leh to Nubra via Khardung La

Cross the mighty Khardung La and descend into the Nubra Valley. Reach Hunder for its cold desert dunes and overnight stay.

Day 4
Nubra to Pangong

Drive the scenic valley route to Pangong Tso, arriving as the lake glows in the afternoon light. Overnight near the shore.

Day 5
Pangong to Leh & depart

Return to Leh over Chang La with photo stops along the way, then transfer for your onward journey.

Why a Ladakh road trip

Ladakh is best understood from behind a windscreen, where every pass reveals a new valley and the scenery changes by the hour. We plan the driving so the biggest days come after you've had time to acclimatise, keeping the trip both spectacular and safe. All routes use restricted-area permits that we arrange on your behalf.

The classic circuit

Most road trips loop out from Leh in a natural arc:

  • Leh and its monasteries for gentle first days
  • Nubra Valley over Khardung La
  • Pangong Tso for the iconic lake
  • Return via Chang La

Longer versions can add Tso Moriri or the Zanskar side for those with more time.

How to reach

Most travellers fly into Leh's Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, which keeps altitude sickness to a minimum by giving you a full day to rest on arrival. Adventurous groups can drive up via the Manali or Srinagar highways, though these add several days. We tailor the arrival plan to your dates and comfort level.

Best time & weather

The road-trip season runs May to September, when the high passes are cleared of snow and days are bright and dry. July and August are warmest but busiest; May, June and September are quieter with crisp mountain air. Nights are cold at altitude year-round, so pack warm layers whatever the month.

Travel tips

Altitude is the thing to respect here. Drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol for the first couple of days, and let your body settle before the high passes. Carry any personal medication, and tell your driver at once if you feel unwell so plans can be adjusted. Our itineraries build in acclimatisation on purpose.
