Kathmandu is Nepal's spiritual and cultural heart, a valley where centuries-old stupas, Hindu temples and pagoda-roofed palaces sit side by side. Wander from the giant dome of Boudhanath to the hilltop Monkey Temple, then lose yourself in the shops and cafes of Thamel. Indian citizens need no visa for Nepal and can arrive on a passport or Voter ID, so a Kathmandu break is one of the simplest international trips from South India. Holiday Vibez arranges comfortable hotels, private guided sightseeing and smooth transfers.

Kathmandu overview

Set in a bowl-shaped valley, Kathmandu holds seven UNESCO World Heritage monument zones within easy reach of each other. It is a heady mix of incense, temple bells, mountain trekkers and old bazaars, and it makes the ideal introduction to Nepal.

Things to do

Beyond the headline temples, spend time on:

  • Sunset circuits of Boudhanath with the pilgrims
  • Browsing Thamel for pashmina, singing bowls and prayer flags
  • A cooking demonstration or momo tasting
  • Day trips to Bhaktapur, Patan or Nagarkot

How to reach Kathmandu

Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) is the main gateway to Nepal. From South India most travellers connect via Delhi or Kolkata. Once in the city, private cars and guides handle all your sightseeing.

Entry & documents

Indians do not need a visa for Nepal. Carry a valid Indian passport or Voter ID; there is no visa fee. Keep original photo identification and a few passport photos handy for hotels and any local registrations.

Best time & weather

October to November and March to April bring clear skies and pleasant days, ideal for sightseeing and valley views. Winters are chilly but dry, while the monsoon can be humid and wet from June to September.

Where to stay

We choose comfortable hotels in or near Thamel and Durbar Marg, so you are close to the sights and the evening buzz. Options range from smart budget properties to heritage and boutique stays, matched to your budget.
