Poon Hill is the ideal introduction to Himalayan trekking - short, scenic and beginner-friendly. You get sweeping mountain panoramas, forest trails and authentic village life without extreme altitude or long days. It is a superb pick for families, older travellers and anyone short on time. The sunrise from Poon Hill is genuinely unforgettable.
This is an easy-to-moderate trek suitable for beginners with basic fitness. Days are shorter, generally 4-6 hours, and the main test is the stone-step climb to Ghorepani. The maximum altitude of 3,210m is modest, making altitude issues less likely, though a steady pace is still wise.
Fly to Kathmandu (KTM) from South India via Delhi or Kolkata, then continue to Pokhara by short flight or scenic drive. The trek begins with a short drive from Pokhara to the trailhead, so it is easy to slot into a wider Nepal trip.
Indian citizens do not need a visa for Nepal. Enter with a valid Indian passport or Voter ID card - there is no visa fee. The Annapurna Conservation Area permit and trekker card are arranged for you within the package.
March-April is magical when the rhododendrons bloom, while October-November delivers the clearest sunrise views. Winter is cold but doable at these lower altitudes. We plan around the best windows, though mountain weather can still cloud the sunrise on any given day.
