Kalpeni Island Tour: A Lagoon of Three Islets
A shimmering lagoon cradling three islets and beaches built from storm-tossed coral
Kalpeni is one of Lakshadweep's most photogenic stops — a low, palm-covered island wrapped in a broad, glass-clear lagoon that also cradles three uninhabited islets: Cheriyam, Tilakkam and Pitti. Its beaches are famously strewn with storm-thrown coral debris, a natural feature that gives the shoreline a rugged, distinctive character. Calm shallow water makes it a friendly place for first-time snorkellers and gentle water sports. Most visitors arrive here as part of the Samudram cruise, stepping ashore for a memorable day in the lagoon.

Suggested itinerary
Board the cruise at Kochi and sail overnight across the Arabian Sea. Enjoy the deck, the sea breeze and your first taste of island-bound anticipation.
Reach Kalpeni and transfer into its wide lagoon. Walk the coral-debris beach and take a first cooling swim in the shallows.
Explore the lagoon towards the islets, try snorkelling over the reef and enjoy kayaking or a glass-bottom boat over the corals.
Spend a relaxed morning among the coconut groves before the ship continues its Lakshadweep circuit or turns back for Kochi.

How to reach Kalpeni
Kalpeni is not served by the archipelago's airport, so it is reached mainly on the Samudram cruise or by government passenger ship from Kochi — a voyage of roughly 14–20 hours each way. Visitors flying Kochi (COK) to Agatti (AGX) would still need long onward boat transfers, which makes the cruise the natural and most comfortable way to include Kalpeni.
Entry permit — we assist
An entry permit is mandatory for every visitor to Lakshadweep, including Kalpeni. Holiday Vibez helps arrange your permit within the package, subject to government approval — apply about 15–30 days ahead with ID proof, passport photos and a police clearance certificate. We cannot guarantee or expedite approval, so plan well in advance.
Best time to visit
Visit Kalpeni between October and May for calm seas and mirror-clear lagoon water, with December to April the busiest and finest window. The June–September monsoon brings rough seas and widespread suspension of boat and cruise services, so it isn't a viable time for the outer islands.
Things to do
Kalpeni is made for the water. Snorkel over the reef, glide across the lagoon by kayak or glass-bottom boat, wade the shallow flats and stroll the coral-strewn shore. It's beginner-friendly and unhurried — a place to swim, float and soak up the quiet rather than chase a packed itinerary.
- Snorkelling in the shallow lagoon
- Kayaking and glass-bottom boat rides
- Lagoon swimming and beach walks
Where you'll stay
Because Kalpeni is usually a day stop on the cruise, your base is the ship's cabin rather than an island hotel. Lakshadweep accommodation is deliberately simple and eco-minded throughout, and the islands are largely dry, so expect comfortable but modest arrangements built around the sea.
Travel tips
Bring reef-safe sunscreen, water shoes for the coral-strewn beach, and enough cash, since cards and ATMs are scarce. An Indian SIM (BSNL/postpaid works best) keeps you connected, and treating the reef gently — no touching or standing on coral — keeps this fragile lagoon beautiful for the next visitor.

Thousands of families and couples across South India have travelled with us — here's what a few of them had to say.
Travelling with my parents and two kids, I was nervous. Holiday Vibez planned every single day perfectly, and the Alleppey houseboat was the highlight. We are already planning our next trip with them.
Best price I found anywhere, and the desert safari and Burj Khalifa tickets were all sorted before we even landed. The team was on WhatsApp whenever I had a question.
The Gulmarg gondola, the shikara ride on Dal Lake — exactly like the photos, no surprises at all. By the end of the trip our driver felt like family.
Booked a fairly last-minute Phuket trip and they still got me a great deal with visa help included. Honest, smooth and genuinely helpful people.
Scuba at Havelock was a dream come true. Every transfer and every hotel was exactly as promised. Worth every rupee, and I have already recommended them to friends.
