Kavaratti Tour, Lakshadweep Capital
The administrative capital, where mosques, a marine aquarium and a calm lagoon meet
Kavaratti is the administrative capital of Lakshadweep and its cultural heart, a lively island by the archipelago's standards yet still wrapped in a calm, clear lagoon. Here you can visit a marine aquarium, admire historic mosques including the beautiful Ujra mosque, and swim in the gentle Kavaratti lagoon. Most travellers reach Kavaratti as a highlight of the Samudram package cruise from Kochi, stepping ashore for a day of culture and coral. It offers a rare glimpse of island life alongside the natural beauty.

The capital's highlights
As Lakshadweep's capital, Kavaratti packs in more to see than most islands. The marine aquarium introduces the reef life of the lagoons, the historic Ujra mosque and other mosques reflect the island's heritage, and the sheltered lagoon invites a swim or snorkel. It is the ideal island for pairing culture with coral in a single day.
Usually visited on the cruise
Most travellers experience Kavaratti as part of the Samudram package cruise from Kochi, which typically calls at Kavaratti, Kalpeni and Minicoy. You step ashore by boat for a day of sightseeing before sailing on, so Kavaratti works beautifully as a cruise highlight rather than a long stay. We can advise on cruise sailings and dates.
Things to do
A day on Kavaratti balances sightseeing with the lagoon.
- Visit the marine aquarium
- See the Ujra mosque and other historic mosques
- Swim or snorkel in Kavaratti lagoon
- Take a glass-bottom boat ride over the reef
How to reach Kavaratti
Kavaratti is most often reached by the Samudram cruise from Kochi, a sea journey of roughly 14 to 20 hours each way. Alternatively you can fly Kochi to Agatti and transfer by boat, though the cruise is the usual way to include Kavaratti. Travellers from other cities connect through Kochi.
Entry permit and best time
An entry permit is mandatory for every visitor. Holiday Vibez assists with and arranges it as part of your package, subject to government approval, so apply 15 to 30 days ahead with ID proof, photographs and a police clearance certificate. Visit between October and May for calm seas and clear lagoons; the June to September monsoon brings rough seas and suspended sailings.

Real stories from real journeys
Thousands of families and couples across South India have travelled with us — here's what a few of them had to say.
Travelling with my parents and two kids, I was nervous. Holiday Vibez planned every single day perfectly, and the Alleppey houseboat was the highlight. We are already planning our next trip with them.
Best price I found anywhere, and the desert safari and Burj Khalifa tickets were all sorted before we even landed. The team was on WhatsApp whenever I had a question.
The Gulmarg gondola, the shikara ride on Dal Lake — exactly like the photos, no surprises at all. By the end of the trip our driver felt like family.
Booked a fairly last-minute Phuket trip and they still got me a great deal with visa help included. Honest, smooth and genuinely helpful people.
Scuba at Havelock was a dream come true. Every transfer and every hotel was exactly as promised. Worth every rupee, and I have already recommended them to friends.
