Tso Moriri rewards those willing to travel further. With no crowds and only a handful of homestays at Korzok, it offers a stillness that busier Pangong has lost. The surrounding Changthang is a land of nomads and wildlife, where the horizon seems endless and the silence is complete.
The lake is a designated Ramsar wetland and a haven for high-altitude wildlife. Patient visitors may spot kiang wild asses, marmots and, in season, breeding bar-headed geese and black-necked cranes. Please keep a respectful distance, as this is a fragile protected habitat.
Tso Moriri lies a long drive south-east of Leh across the Changthang, often via Chumathang's hot springs. The route is remote with few facilities, so a rest day in Leh first is essential. We arrange the Inner Line Permit and provide a driver experienced on these lonely roads.
May to September is the practical window, when the tracks are passable and Korzok's homestays operate. The altitude means nights are freezing even in summer, so warm layers are vital. Weather is unpredictable, and we build flexibility into the plan.
