Gurez is for travellers who want Kashmir at its wildest and least visited — big mountain scenery, a rushing river and villages that feel worlds away from the resorts. It rewards a sense of adventure and flexibility. As a domestic destination it needs no visa or permit for Indian travellers, though its remoteness calls for careful planning.

Fly to Srinagar (SXR) — direct from Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru, or one stop via Delhi from other cities — then drive over the high Razdan Pass into Gurez. It is a long mountain journey, so we build in realistic timings and use experienced local drivers.
Gurez is a summer destination, best from around late spring to early autumn when the Razdan Pass is open. In winter heavy snow closes the pass and cuts the valley off, so we plan the standard, well-travelled season and monitor conditions closely before you travel.
Gurez is remote, so come prepared: carry warm layers even in summer, expect basic but characterful accommodation, and keep cash to hand as facilities are limited. Mobile signal is patchy to absent in much of the valley, so plan communications in advance and allow flexibility for mountain weather.
