Gulmarg offers some of Asia's most celebrated skiing, with gondola-served slopes ranging from gentle nursery runs to long, challenging descents. The lift system, wide terrain and reliable winter snow have made it a favourite of both learners and experienced skiers. Instructors and gear hire are available locally, so first-timers are well catered for.
Winter in Gulmarg is all about the mountain, with plenty beyond the pistes too.
Fly to Srinagar (SXR) — direct flights from Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru, with one-stop links via Delhi from other cities — then drive up to Gulmarg, a scenic couple of hours away. As domestic travel, Indian travellers need no visa or permit; local travel is by car or taxi.
