The Dochula Pass is one of Bhutan's most photographed spots, where 108 memorial chortens crown a ridge at around 3,100m between Thimphu and Punakha. On a clear day the eastern Himalayan range unfolds behind the stupas in an unforgettable panorama. It is an easy roadside stop rather than a trek, making it perfect for all ages. Our tours weave Dochula into the Thimphu–Punakha route, and we arrange your Entry Permit and Sustainable Development Fee.

Why visit Dochula

Dochula combines spirituality and scenery in one effortless stop. The 108 chortens are a memorial and a masterpiece of setting, and on a clear day the Himalayan backdrop is breathtaking. Because it sits right on the highway, everyone in your group can enjoy it without any hiking.

What to see

Give yourself time to linger:

  • Walk among the 108 Druk Wangyal chortens
  • Step inside the Druk Wangyal Lhakhang temple
  • Warm up with butter tea at the mountain cafe
  • Time your visit for a clear-sky Himalayan panorama

How to reach Dochula

The pass lies about 45 minutes' drive east of Thimphu on the road to Punakha, at around 3,100m. There is no airport nearby; travellers fly into Paro International Airport and reach Dochula by road as part of a wider itinerary.

Entry permit & documents

Indian citizens do not need a traditional visa. You travel on a passport or Voter ID with an Entry Permit arranged by Holiday Vibez, plus a route permit for travel beyond Thimphu which we also handle. The Sustainable Development Fee is currently ₹1,200 per person per night for Indian nationals, children discounted and under-6s exempt (subject to change).

Best time & weather

Clear Himalayan views are most likely on crisp mornings from late autumn to early spring, especially October to February. Spring adds rhododendron blooms. Cloud can obscure the peaks at any time, so we plan a there-and-back crossing to improve your chances.
