Phobjikha Valley Tour — Cranes & Gangtey
A serene glacial valley where rare cranes winter
The Phobjikha valley is one of Bhutan's most tranquil and unspoilt corners, a wide glacial bowl in the central highlands watched over by the Gangtey monastery. Each winter it welcomes the endangered black-necked cranes, which roost here from around November to February. At roughly 3,000m the valley is cool, open and beautifully remote, ideal for nature lovers and gentle walkers. We arrange your Entry Permit and guide you on the Sustainable Development Fee.

Why visit Phobjikha
Phobjikha offers a slower, wilder side of Bhutan far from the tourist trail. Its glacial valley, hillside monastery and winter cranes make it a favourite of nature lovers. The gentle nature trail and open pastures suit travellers who want scenery without strenuous trekking.
The black-necked cranes
From around November to February, endangered black-necked cranes migrate to Phobjikha to escape the Tibetan winter. The valley is a protected conservation area, and the Crane Information Centre offers scopes and guidance for respectful viewing. Sightings are seasonal and wild, so we manage expectations honestly.
How to reach Phobjikha
Phobjikha lies in central Bhutan, around five to six hours' drive from Thimphu via the Dochula Pass and Wangdue. There is no airport nearby, so travellers fly into Paro International Airport and continue by road, often with an overnight in Punakha or Wangdue.
Entry permit & documents
Indian citizens do not need a traditional visa for Bhutan. You travel on a passport or Voter ID with an Entry Permit that we arrange, plus route permits for central Bhutan which our team handles. The Sustainable Development Fee is currently ₹1,200 per person per night for Indian nationals, children discounted and under-6s exempt (subject to change).
Best time to visit
For the black-necked cranes, visit between November and February. For milder weather and green landscapes, spring and autumn are lovely, though the cranes will have departed. The valley is cool year-round given its altitude, so pack warm layers.

Real stories from real journeys
Thousands of families and couples across South India have travelled with us — here's what a few of them had to say.
Travelling with my parents and two kids, I was nervous. Holiday Vibez planned every single day perfectly, and the Alleppey houseboat was the highlight. We are already planning our next trip with them.
Best price I found anywhere, and the desert safari and Burj Khalifa tickets were all sorted before we even landed. The team was on WhatsApp whenever I had a question.
The Gulmarg gondola, the shikara ride on Dal Lake — exactly like the photos, no surprises at all. By the end of the trip our driver felt like family.
Booked a fairly last-minute Phuket trip and they still got me a great deal with visa help included. Honest, smooth and genuinely helpful people.
Scuba at Havelock was a dream come true. Every transfer and every hotel was exactly as promised. Worth every rupee, and I have already recommended them to friends.
