Thirumoozhikkulam Sree Lakshmana Perumal Temple, on the bank of the Periyar (Poorna) river near Aluva in Ernakulam district, is one of the rare shrines in India where Lakshmana is the presiding deity rather than a companion figure. It is counted among the 108 Divya Desams sung by the Alvars in the Nalayira Divya Prabandham, and is one of the thirteen Malainadu (Kerala) Divya Desams — the deity is known here as Moozhikkalathan or Sukthinatha Perumal, with Madhuraveni Thayar as consort. The temple is also the Lakshmana station of the Nalambalam circuit, the four-temple round that pairs it with Rama at Thriprayar, Bharata at Irinjalakuda and Shatrughna at Payammal. It is built in Kerala style with a round granite-and-laterite sanctum inside a walled compound, and tradition holds that its plan came from the legendary master carpenter Perumthachan; the temple was burned during Tipu Sultan's invasion in 1790 and rebuilt under the Travancore rulers, and is administered today by the Travancore Devaswom Board.
October to March is the comfortable window — dry, mild days and an easy drive from Kochi. The ten-day annual festival falls in the Malayalam month of Medam (April–May), and Vaikunta Ekadashi in December–January draws large Vaishnava crowds. Many pilgrims come specifically in Karkidakam (roughly mid-July to mid-August), when the Nalambala Darshanam round of the four Ramayana brothers is traditionally performed; this is monsoon season and the temple is at its busiest then, so expect rain, wet floors and long lines.
Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery is the nearest airport, roughly 12–15 km away, which makes this one of the easiest Divya Desams in Kerala to reach by air. Aluva is the nearest major railhead at about 15 km, with Angamaly station a similar distance; Ernakulam city is roughly 25–30 km by road. The temple sits at Thirumoozhikkulam village off the Aluva–Angamaly stretch, and the last few kilometres are on narrow village roads — a car or taxi is far more practical than public buses, especially for elders.
As at other Travancore Devaswom Board temples in Kerala, entry is permitted to Hindus only. Traditional dress is expected: men are generally required to wear a mundu or dhoti and to remove the upper garment inside the temple, and women should wear a saree, half-saree or churidar with a dupatta — shorts, sleeveless tops and short skirts are not allowed. Photography inside the temple is normally not permitted. Pooja timings and the exact festival dates change year to year, so confirm with the temple office before you travel.

Yes. It is counted among the 108 Divya Desams praised by the Alvars, and among the thirteen Malainadu or Kerala Divya Desams. It is the only one of the four Nalambalam temples that carries Divya Desam status.
What is the Nalambala Darshanam, and does it have to be done in one day?
It is the pilgrimage to the four temples of Rama's brothers — Thriprayar (Rama), Irinjalakuda (Bharata), Thirumoozhikkulam (Lakshmana) and Payammal (Shatrughna). Custom is to visit all four in a single day, in that order, during the month of Karkidakam. Devotees who cannot manage that do visit them over two days or outside Karkidakam; the temples do not turn anyone away for it.
Can our travel agent arrange a special or quick darshan here?
No. Entry and queue arrangements are entirely the temple's own, under the Travancore Devaswom Board, and no agent can obtain, reserve or speed up darshan. What can be planned for you is transport, timing your arrival away from the heaviest hours, and accommodation nearby.
Is the temple manageable for elderly pilgrims?
Yes — the temple is on flat ground with no climb or long flight of steps, which makes it one of the gentler stops on a Kerala temple circuit. The main difficulty is the crowd during Karkidakam and Vaikunta Ekadashi, and wet stone floors in the monsoon.
