Pitambara Peeth in Datia is a Shakti shrine dedicated to Maa Bagalamukhi, one of the ten Mahavidyas, worshipped as the goddess who stills opposition and removes obstacles — which is why litigants, officials and families facing disputes or court matters come here in large numbers. It was founded in the first half of the 20th century by the ascetic remembered as Swamiji Maharaj, who settled in Datia after a long period of tapasya, and the complex he built is unusual for holding a separate temple to Maa Dhumavati, a Mahavidya with very few shrines anywhere in India. Within the same walled compound stand the Vankhandeshwar Shiva temple, held by local tradition to be of Mahabharata antiquity, the Haridra Sarovar tank, a Sanskrit library of mantra and tantra texts, and a small museum of the founder's belongings. Tradition also holds that a great yajna was performed here during a national wartime crisis, a story that gives the peeth much of its standing in popular memory.
October to March is the comfortable window, since Datia and the wider Bundelkhand belt run very hot from April to June. Both Chaitra Navratri (March–April) and Sharadiya Navratri (September–October) are the peak devotional season, with Ashtami and Navami drawing very heavy crowds and long queues; Saturdays are also busy through the year. Elders who want a quiet darshan are better off on an ordinary winter weekday morning.
The nearest airport is Gwalior (Rajmata Vijaya Raje Scindia airport), roughly 75 km north, with Jhansi the other common arrival point about 30 km to the south. Datia has its own station on the Delhi–Agra–Gwalior–Jhansi main line, and the temple is only about 2–3 km from it, an easy auto ride. By road Datia sits close to NH-44, so buses and taxis run frequently from Gwalior, Jhansi, Orchha and Shivpuri; Delhi is around 320 km and Bhopal around 320 km.
Cameras and mobile phones are generally not permitted inside the temple premises — there is a deposit counter near the entrance, and many visitors simply leave them in the vehicle. Access is level and there is no climb, which suits elderly pilgrims. Darshan and aarti timings vary by season and festival, so confirm with the temple before you travel.

Maa Bagalamukhi is traditionally invoked to still an adversary and clear obstacles, so devotees facing litigation, career blocks or family disputes come here to pray and to have pujas performed by the temple's priests. This is a devotional practice, not a guarantee of any outcome.
Can I take photos inside the temple?
Generally no. Phones and cameras are usually not allowed inside the premises and must be deposited or left in your vehicle. Rules can tighten further during Navratri, so follow the staff and signage on the day.
What else can we see on the same trip?
Datia Palace, the seven-storey Bundela-era palace, is only a few minutes away, and the Jain temple hill of Sonagiri is a short drive. Orchha and Jhansi are both within easy reach, so most families combine Pitambara Peeth with a two- or three-day Bundelkhand circuit.
