Chintaman Ganesh is the largest Ganesha temple in Ujjain, standing on the far side of the Kshipra river about 6–7 km from the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga. The name comes from Chintaharan — the remover of worry — and the sanctum holds three forms of Ganesha together: Chintaman, Icchaman and Siddhivinayak, with the principal idea being that the image is swayambhu, self-manifested rather than carved. Tradition holds that the shrine was established by Sita during the Ramayana exile, while the visible temple is generally dated to the Paramara period of Malwa, with later Maratha-era renovation; the carved stone pillars of the assembly hall are its most striking surviving feature. Local custom in Ujjain gives Chintaman Ganesh the first invitation before a wedding or any new undertaking, and devotees mark inverted swastikas on the pillars as a petition, turning them upright once the worry is lifted.
October to March is the comfortable window — Ujjain's summers run very hot and April–June is hard on elders. Ganesh Chaturthi (August or September) is the temple's biggest occasion, and the Wednesday fairs through the month of Chaitra (March–April) draw large local crowds; on any Wednesday, and especially during Chaitra and Ganesh Chaturthi, expect long waiting lines. Most families combine this darshan with Mahakaleshwar, so plan a full Ujjain day rather than a quick stop.
The nearest airport is Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport, Indore, roughly 55–60 km away, about 1.5–2 hours by road. Ujjain Junction is the main railhead, about 6–7 km from the temple, with autos and taxis available; there is also a small halt station named Chintaman Ganesh on the Ujjain–Fatehabad line. By road the temple sits about 6 km from Mahakaleshwar Temple, across the Kshipra, and Ujjain is well connected by bus and taxi from Indore, Bhopal (about 190 km) and Dewas.
The temple is a short drive out of the main Mahakaleshwar area, so arrange local transport for it separately — it is not within walking distance of the Mahakal precinct. There is no climb or trek involved and the shrine is easy for elderly pilgrims; modest traditional dress is expected, as at any Ujjain temple. Aarti and darshan arrangements can change on festival days, so confirm with the temple before you travel.

Timings and festival arrangements are set by the temple, so confirm with them before you travel.
