Mahavir Mandir is a Hanuman temple in the heart of Patna, standing a short walk from Patna Junction railway station. Tradition and a 1948 Patna High Court judgment trace the shrine back to Swami Balanand of the Ramanandi order around 1730 CE; it was rebuilt after Partition in 1947, when refugees settling in Patna swelled its congregation, and later remodelled in white marble into the multi-level structure seen today. The sanctum enshrines Hanuman in his Sankat Mochan form, and the temple is known for its Naivedyam prasad, made at the temple by confectioners trained in the Tirupati laddu tradition. It is run by the Shri Mahavir Sthan Nyas Samiti, which channels offerings into cancer and general hospitals across Bihar, and it drew attention in 1993 for appointing a priest from the Dalit community.
October to March is the comfortable window, when Patna's heat and the monsoon are both past. Ram Navami, usually in March or April, is the temple's biggest day and is genuinely punishing — queues have been reported running over a kilometre, and elders are better served visiting a few days on either side. Tuesdays and Saturdays are Hanuman's days and are crowded all year round; a weekday morning outside festival season is the easiest darshan.
The temple sits roughly 200 metres from Patna Junction, so most pilgrims simply walk across from the station forecourt. Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport at Patna is about 5-6 km away, roughly 20-30 minutes by taxi depending on traffic. By road, Patna is well connected to Gaya (about 100 km), Bodh Gaya, Nalanda and Varanasi, and autos, taxis and city buses run to the temple from anywhere in the city.
The temple stands in one of the busiest parts of Patna, immediately beside the railway station, so traffic and foot crowds are heavy and parking is difficult — drop elderly travellers close to the entrance rather than driving in. There are stairs within the multi-level complex. Darshan arrangements, queue routes and any festival restrictions are decided by the temple trust alone, so confirm current timings with the temple before you travel.

Is Mahavir Mandir walkable from Patna Junction?
Yes. The temple is only about 200 metres from Patna Junction railway station, which is why many travellers stop for darshan between trains. Even so, the stretch is busy with traffic and vendors, so keep a hand on elderly family members.
What is the Naivedyam prasad?
It is the temple's own laddu prasad, prepared in the temple kitchen by confectioners working in the Tirupati laddu tradition. It is sold at the temple's counters; availability and quantity limits are set by the trust and can vary on festival days.
When is it most crowded?
Ram Navami is by far the heaviest, with queues reported over a kilometre long. Tuesdays and Saturdays are also busy all year. If you are travelling with elders, plan an ordinary weekday morning in the cooler months instead.
