It is also the traditional base for the Amarnath pilgrimage. Calmer than Gulmarg and cooler than Srinagar, Pahalgam suits travellers who want scenery and stillness in equal measure — all reached on a simple domestic trip.
Fly into Srinagar (SXR), transfer and enjoy an evening shikara ride on Dal Lake before an overnight stay.

Pahalgam is the green, unhurried side of Kashmir — a place of rivers, meadows and pine rather than busy resorts. It rewards travellers who like to walk, breathe mountain air and slow right down. As a domestic destination, it needs no visa or permit for Indian travellers.
The town itself is small, but the surrounding valleys are the real draw.
Fly to Srinagar (SXR) — direct from Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru, or one stop via Delhi from elsewhere — then drive to Pahalgam through orchards and saffron country. All ground travel is by car or taxi, arranged within your package.
March to October is the sweet spot, with green valleys through summer and golden chinar in autumn. Higher points like Chandanwari can hold snow into spring. December to February is cold and snowy, and some roads may close, so we plan the standard, well-travelled circuits and monitor conditions.
Carry warm layers even in summer for the higher meadows, wear comfortable shoes for uneven trails, and keep some cash handy as mobile signal can be patchy in the side valleys. Local vehicles are often used for the last stretch into Betaab and Aru.
