Sunset hand-line fishing is gentle and traditional — you drop a baited line over the reef and reel up snapper and grouper as the sun sets. Big-game fishing is a longer, deeper charter that trolls the open ocean for prized fish like tuna, wahoo and sailfish, and suits keener anglers.
Fly to Malé (MLE), with direct flights from several Indian metros — roughly 1.5–3 hours from the south and 3–4.5 hours from Delhi and Mumbai. From Malé a speedboat or seaplane reaches your island, and fishing trips depart from the island jetty.
November to April offers the calmest seas and easiest fishing conditions, especially for the deeper big-game charters. May to October is wetter but can bring good value and strong catches; your crew will advise on the day's conditions.
The Maldives is visa-free for Indians — a free 30-day visa is issued on arrival. All you need is a valid passport, a return ticket and confirmed accommodation.
Practice varies by island, and catch-and-release or size rules may apply to protect the reef. Big-game trips can involve open-ocean swell, so mention seasickness in advance. Alcohol is available only at resorts and liveaboards, not on local islands.
