Most monasteries lie within easy reach of Leh along the Indus valley and Sham Valley roads, the furthest being Lamayuru around 125km away. We provide a private vehicle and knowledgeable driver to link them comfortably.
May to September is ideal for touring the gompas, and many hold vibrant masked festivals such as Hemis in summer. Festival dates follow the Tibetan lunar calendar, so we advise on timing if you wish to attend one.
Dress modestly at monasteries, remove shoes where asked and seek permission before photographing monks or murals. Take a day to acclimatise in Leh first, and carry water and sun protection for the high, dry air.
