Getting to Nepal from India is straightforward, and the good news is that Indians don't need a visa for Nepal — you enter with a valid Indian passport or Voter ID. Most travellers fly to Kathmandu (KTM) from cities like Delhi and Kolkata, while overland routes across the open border are popular for those combining Nepal with North India. From Kathmandu, short domestic flights reach Pokhara and the Everest gateway of Lukla. This guide explains your options honestly, including that flights add to the land cost of a package.

Suggested itinerary

Step 1
Fly to Kathmandu

Book a flight from your Indian city to Kathmandu (KTM), often via Delhi or Kolkata from South India.

Step 2
Arrive & Enter

Clear immigration with your Indian passport or Voter ID — no visa is required for Indian citizens.

Step 3
Onward Domestic Hop

Take a short domestic flight to Pokhara or Lukla, or continue by private road transfer.

Step 4
Explore Nepal

Begin your Kathmandu Valley, Pokhara, Chitwan or trekking itinerary as planned.

Indicative Nepal package prices (per person on twin-sharing; land package):

Trip DurationIndicative Price (per person)
4 Nights / 5 Daysfrom ₹24,999
5 Nights / 6 Daysfrom ₹28,999
6 Nights / 7 Daysfrom ₹33,999
7 Nights / 8 Daysfrom ₹38,999

Indicative land-package prices (per person twin-sharing) — international flights are additional and the final quote depends on hotels, season and trek choice. Indians need no visa for Nepal. Share your dates for an exact quote.

By Air

The fastest route is flying into Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM), Nepal's principal gateway. Direct flights run from several Indian cities, and travellers from South India usually connect through Delhi or Kolkata. Flights are quicker than overland travel but add to the land-package cost, which we'll fold into your overall quote.

By Land

The India–Nepal border is open to Indian citizens, and overland travel is popular for those combining Nepal with North India. Common crossings include:

  • Sunauli (near Gorakhpur) for Kathmandu and Pokhara
  • Raxaul–Birgunj for central Nepal and Chitwan
  • Kakarbhitta (near Siliguri) for eastern Nepal

Road journeys are long, so many travellers fly at least one way.

Domestic Flights Within Nepal

Once in Nepal, short domestic flights connect Kathmandu with Pokhara (around 25–30 minutes) and with Lukla for Everest treks. Mountain flights, especially to Lukla, are weather-sensitive and can be delayed, so we advise buffer days on trekking trips.

Entry & Documents

Indian citizens do not need a visa for Nepal. You may enter with a valid Indian passport or a Voter ID (Election Commission card) — no visa fee applies. Carry ID copies and a few passport photos for hotels and domestic flights.

Getting Around

Within a package, private vehicles link the main regions — Kathmandu, Chitwan, Pokhara and Nagarkot — for comfort and flexibility. On tighter schedules a domestic flight can replace a long road leg, at extra cost.
