On the banks of the mighty Brahmaputra, Guwahati is Assam's largest city and the gateway to the entire Northeast. Here you can seek blessings at the famous Kamakhya temple, sail on a sunset river cruise and visit the peaceful island shrine of Umananda. Most South Indian travellers fly into Guwahati (GAU) to begin their Northeast journey, so flights add to the land price. We use the city as a smooth, comfortable base for wider explorations.

Why visit Guwahati

Guwahati blends spirituality, riverside calm and city energy. As the gateway to the Northeast, it offers the Kamakhya temple, Brahmaputra cruises and easy connections onward to Shillong, Kaziranga and beyond, making it a natural starting point for the region.

Top things to do

Even a short stay is rewarding:

  • Seek blessings at Kamakhya temple
  • Cruise the Brahmaputra at sunset
  • Ferry to Umananda island temple
  • Shop for Assam silk at Fancy Bazaar

How to reach Guwahati

Guwahati (GAU) is the Northeast's main airport with direct and connecting flights from major South Indian cities. Most travellers fly in to start their journey, so flights are separate from the land package. The airport is well connected to the city by road.

Best time to visit

October to April brings pleasant, dry weather ideal for temple visits and river cruises. Summers are warm and humid, while the monsoon swells the Brahmaputra dramatically, so the cooler months are most comfortable.

Travel tips

Dress modestly for temple visits and expect queues at Kamakhya on auspicious days. Guwahati works best as a base for the wider Northeast, so we are happy to extend your trip to Shillong, Kaziranga or Tawang.
