Gangtey & Phobjikha Valley Tour Packages
A wide glacial valley of grazing cranes, prayer flags and quiet monastery bells
The Gangtey (Phobjikha) valley is one of Bhutan's most beautiful glacial bowls, a broad U-shaped valley ringed by forested hills in the central Wangdue region. Its centrepiece is the 17th-century Gangtey Goenpa, an important Nyingma monastery overlooking the wetlands. From roughly November to February the valley becomes the winter home of the rare black-necked cranes, drawing birdwatchers from across the world. Holiday Vibez arranges your Bhutan Entry Permit and a private guided journey so you simply enjoy the walks and the stillness.

Why visit Gangtey & Phobjikha
The Gangtey-Phobjikha valley offers a slower, wilder side of Bhutan than the busy dzong towns. Expect open meadows, potato and buckwheat fields, grazing cattle and a horizon of dark blue forest. In winter it is the theatre for the black-necked cranes, while in other seasons it is simply one of the country's most peaceful walking landscapes.
Things to see and do
Beyond the monastery and the crane wetlands, this valley rewards slow travel:
- Walk the Gangtey Nature Trail end to end
- Learn about conservation at the Black-Necked Crane Centre
- Visit local farmhouses and try a hot-stone bath
- Photograph mist rising off the wetlands at dawn
How to reach
Most South-India travellers fly to Paro (PBH), Bhutan's only international airport, then drive roughly 5–6 hours to the valley via Thimphu and the Dochula Pass. Overland entry via Phuentsholing is also possible. All internal transfers are by private vehicle with your guide.
Entry permit & documents
Indian citizens do not need a traditional visa for Bhutan. You travel on a valid Indian passport or Voter ID card and require an Entry Permit, which Holiday Vibez arranges as part of your package. A Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) applies, currently around ₹1,200 per person per night for Indian nationals (children discounted, under-6 exempt; subject to change). Carry passport-size photos and a valid ID.
Best time to visit
For the black-necked cranes, plan a visit between about November and February, when the birds are in the valley. For milder weather and green landscapes, March–May and September–November are ideal. Winters are cold at this altitude, so pack warm layers.

Real stories from real journeys
Thousands of families and couples across South India have travelled with us — here's what a few of them had to say.
Travelling with my parents and two kids, I was nervous. Holiday Vibez planned every single day perfectly, and the Alleppey houseboat was the highlight. We are already planning our next trip with them.
Best price I found anywhere, and the desert safari and Burj Khalifa tickets were all sorted before we even landed. The team was on WhatsApp whenever I had a question.
The Gulmarg gondola, the shikara ride on Dal Lake — exactly like the photos, no surprises at all. By the end of the trip our driver felt like family.
Booked a fairly last-minute Phuket trip and they still got me a great deal with visa help included. Honest, smooth and genuinely helpful people.
Scuba at Havelock was a dream come true. Every transfer and every hotel was exactly as promised. Worth every rupee, and I have already recommended them to friends.
