Why Bhutan suits families

With very low crime, clean air and gentle, respectful locals, Bhutan is reassuringly easy for parents. Distances between valleys are short, sightseeing is unhurried, and there is a healthy mix of culture, nature and light activity for children of different ages.

Entry permit and documents

Indian families do not need a visa. You travel on an Entry Permit plus the Sustainable Development Fee, currently Rs 1,200 per person per night for Indians (children are discounted and under-6 are exempt; subject to change). Carry passports or Voter IDs; for children, carry birth certificates or school ID and photographs. We arrange the Entry Permit for your whole family.

Best time to travel

Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) offer the most comfortable weather for children, with clear skies and pleasant days. Autumn also coincides with vibrant tshechu festivals that youngsters find fascinating.

Where you will stay

We choose comfortable, family-friendly hotels with spacious rooms and reliable dining across Paro, Thimphu and Punakha. Let us know your children's ages and we will match properties and pacing accordingly.

Getting there

Most families fly to Paro (PBH), typically via a metro hub in South India, for a dramatic Himalayan landing. Overland entry via Phuentsholing is also possible. We help plan comfortable transfers and rest stops throughout.
