Arrive Paro, drive to Thimphu

Land at Paro and drive to Thimphu, visiting Buddha Dordenma before settling into the capital.

Phobjikha and the cranes

From late October to March, black-necked cranes winter in Phobjikha, drawing birdwatchers and photographers. Even outside crane season, the wide glacial valley and Gangtey Monastery make it a magical, uncrowded stop.

How to reach

Fly into Paro (PBH) on Drukair or Bhutan Airlines from Kolkata, Delhi, Guwahati or Bagdogra, or arrive overland via Phuentsholing. From South India, connect through one of these gateways.

Entry permit and documents

Indian nationals do not need a visa. You travel on an Entry Permit plus the Sustainable Development Fee, currently ₹1,200 per person per night (subject to change; children discounted, under-6 exempt), carrying a passport or Voter ID. The SDF applies for each night. Holiday Vibez arranges the permit.
