The Best Season Overall

For most travellers, October to March is the ideal time to visit Rajasthan. Days are warm and comfortable for sightseeing, while evenings and desert nights turn pleasantly cool. This window covers the festive season and the most reliable weather for forts, safaris and lake experiences.

Winter: Peak Season (Nov-Feb)

Winter is Rajasthan at its most comfortable, with sunny days and cool nights. It is perfect for long fort visits, desert camps and boat rides, though desert nights can get genuinely cold, so pack a warm layer. This is the busiest and most popular period, so booking ahead is wise.

Summer: Hot but Quiet (Apr-Jun)

Summer brings intense heat, particularly in the desert belt around Jaisalmer and Jodhpur, where daytime temperatures soar. Sightseeing is best limited to early mornings and evenings. The upside is fewer crowds and lower rates, but for comfort we generally advise against peak summer travel.

Monsoon: Green Interlude (Jul-Sep)

Rajasthan sees relatively light monsoon rains, which briefly green the landscape and cool the air. Showers are usually short, and cities like Udaipur look lush and romantic. It can be an atmospheric, quieter time to visit, though occasional rain may affect desert plans.

Festivals Worth Timing

Rajasthan's calendar is rich with colour. Highlights include:

  • The Pushkar Camel Fair, usually in November
  • The Jaisalmer Desert Festival in winter
  • Regional celebrations of Holi and Diwali

Timing your trip around these can add a memorable cultural dimension.
