Best Time to Visit Kerala
A season-by-season guide to timing your God's Own Country holiday
Kerala rewards visitors all year, but the experience shifts with the seasons. The most popular window is September to March, when the weather is pleasant, the countryside is green after the rains and conditions across hills, backwaters and coast are at their most comfortable. The June to August monsoon is the classic Ayurveda season — lush, atmospheric and quieter. This guide walks through each season so you can choose the timing that best suits your plans, whether that is peak greenery, fewer crowds or a wellness retreat.

Suggested itinerary
The landscape is at its greenest and skies clear. Excellent for hills and backwaters, with moderate crowds before the December peak — a lovely time to tour Munnar and Alleppey.
The most pleasant, festive months with the best coastal weather. Book hotels and houseboats well ahead, as this is Kerala's busiest window.
Still comfortable and less crowded than the peak, with warming days. A great time for a balanced hills-backwaters-beach trip before the heat builds.
Rains bring dramatic greenery, full backwaters and the traditional Ayurveda season. Fewer visitors and a slower, atmospheric pace, with showers to plan around.

Overview of Kerala's seasons
Kerala has three broad seasons: the pleasant post-monsoon and winter months (September to March), the hot pre-monsoon (April to May) and the monsoon (June to August, with a lighter spell later in the year). For sightseeing across hills, backwaters and coast, September to March is the standout period. The monsoon has its own devoted following for wellness and greenery.
September to March — the pleasant season
This is when most travellers visit. Days are comfortable, the countryside is lush after the rains, and every landscape is at its best — clear tea-hill views in Munnar, full backwaters at Alleppey and sunny beaches at Kovalam. December and January are the peak, bright and festive, so book key stays and houseboats in advance.
June to August — monsoon & Ayurveda
The monsoon transforms Kerala into a green, glistening landscape. It is traditionally considered the ideal season for Ayurveda, when the cool, humid climate is believed to enhance treatments. Crowds thin, the backwaters take on a moody beauty and rates often ease. Pack a good rain layer and keep your plans flexible around showers.
April to May — the warm months
Pre-monsoon Kerala is hot and humid on the plains and coast, though the hills of Munnar and Wayanad stay cooler and make a pleasant retreat. It is quieter and can suit travellers who prefer fewer crowds and don't mind the warmth, particularly for a hill-focused trip.
Choosing your time
Match the season to your priorities:
- Best all-round weather and scenery — September to March
- Festive peak with the finest coastal days — December and January
- Ayurveda, lush greenery and fewer crowds — June to August
- Cooler hill escape in the warm months — April to May in Munnar or Wayanad

Real stories from real journeys
Thousands of families and couples across South India have travelled with us — here's what a few of them had to say.
Travelling with my parents and two kids, I was nervous. Holiday Vibez planned every single day perfectly, and the Alleppey houseboat was the highlight. We are already planning our next trip with them.
Best price I found anywhere, and the desert safari and Burj Khalifa tickets were all sorted before we even landed. The team was on WhatsApp whenever I had a question.
The Gulmarg gondola, the shikara ride on Dal Lake — exactly like the photos, no surprises at all. By the end of the trip our driver felt like family.
Booked a fairly last-minute Phuket trip and they still got me a great deal with visa help included. Honest, smooth and genuinely helpful people.
Scuba at Havelock was a dream come true. Every transfer and every hotel was exactly as promised. Worth every rupee, and I have already recommended them to friends.
