How to Reach Kerala
Flights, trains and road routes into God's Own Country
Kerala is easy to reach from anywhere in India. The state has three airports — Kochi (COK), Trivandrum (TRV) and Kozhikode (CCJ) — with direct flights from all the metros, and Kochi serves as the main gateway. Kerala also enjoys excellent rail links along its length and good highways connecting it to neighbouring states. This guide covers the practical ways to arrive and how they fit different itineraries, so you can plan the smoothest possible start to your holiday. Holiday Vibez arranges private transfers from your arrival point onward.
Top things to see & do
Suggested itinerary
Pick the airport that best matches your route — Kochi for hills and backwaters, Trivandrum for the southern coast, Kozhikode for the Malabar north.
Direct flights connect the metros to all three airports, while comfortable trains link Kerala to much of India for those who prefer rail.
On landing, your private transfer takes you to the first destination — for example Kochi to Munnar through waterfalls and spice groves.
Because the state is compact, private cars move you easily between hills, backwaters and coast, with scenic drives throughout.

By air
Flying is the fastest way to reach Kerala. Kochi (COK) is the principal gateway, with wide domestic and international connectivity, and is the natural choice for itineraries built around Munnar, Thekkady and the Alleppey backwaters. Trivandrum (TRV) suits southern, beach-focused trips, while Kozhikode (CCJ) serves the Malabar north and Wayanad. Many travellers fly into one airport and out of another to avoid backtracking.
By train
Kerala has an extensive and scenic rail network running the length of the state. Major stations include Thiruvananthapuram Central, Ernakulam (Kochi), Kozhikode and Alleppey, all well connected to cities across India. Train travel is comfortable and economical, and the coastal stretches are particularly picturesque.
By road
Good national highways link Kerala with Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and cities such as Bengaluru, Coimbatore and Chennai. The drives through the Western Ghats — for instance the ascent to Munnar or Wayanad — are beautiful in their own right. Self-drive and private-car options both work well for reaching the state.
Getting around within Kerala
Kerala is compact, which makes combining hills, backwaters and beach in a single trip easy. The most comfortable way to travel between destinations is a private car with a driver, which we arrange as part of every package. Local taxis, app cabs and buses are also widely available.
Planning your gateway
Choose your entry and exit points to match your route:
- Kochi (COK) — central, best for hills and backwaters
- Trivandrum (TRV) — south, best for beaches
- Kozhikode (CCJ) — north, best for Wayanad and Malabar
- Fly in and out of different airports to save doubling back

Real stories from real journeys
Thousands of families and couples across South India have travelled with us — here's what a few of them had to say.
Travelling with my parents and two kids, I was nervous. Holiday Vibez planned every single day perfectly, and the Alleppey houseboat was the highlight. We are already planning our next trip with them.
Best price I found anywhere, and the desert safari and Burj Khalifa tickets were all sorted before we even landed. The team was on WhatsApp whenever I had a question.
The Gulmarg gondola, the shikara ride on Dal Lake — exactly like the photos, no surprises at all. By the end of the trip our driver felt like family.
Booked a fairly last-minute Phuket trip and they still got me a great deal with visa help included. Honest, smooth and genuinely helpful people.
Scuba at Havelock was a dream come true. Every transfer and every hotel was exactly as promised. Worth every rupee, and I have already recommended them to friends.
