The short answer is October to May, when the Andamans are dry, the seas are calm and the water is at its clearest for snorkelling and diving. The June to September monsoon brings rough seas and occasional ferry cancellations, so most travellers avoid it. December and January are the glorious peak, sunny and lively, while the shoulder months offer the same beauty with fewer crowds. Here is how the year unfolds so you can pick your perfect window.

October–NovemberSeas settle after the monsoon and greenery is lush, a lovely, quieter time to visit.
White-sand Radhanagar Beach, Havelock, Andaman
February–MarchWarm, calm and clear, arguably the finest diving conditions of the year.
A pristine Andaman beach backed by jungle
April–MayHot but still dry, with excellent water visibility and better deals before the rains.

Overview of the seasons

The Andamans have a tropical climate that is warm year-round, so it is the sea, not the temperature, that decides the best time. Dry-season calm from October to May makes ferries reliable and water clear, while the monsoon churns the sea and disrupts island-hopping.

Best time (Oct–May)

These are the months to aim for. Skies are mostly clear, crossings are smooth and underwater visibility is superb. December and January are the peak, so book early; the shoulder months of October, November, February and March offer the same conditions with fewer crowds.

The monsoon (Jun–Sep)

The southwest monsoon brings heavy showers, rough seas and occasional ferry cancellations. The islands are lush and hotels cheaper, but island-hopping becomes unreliable, so we generally steer beach-and-water holidays away from these months.

Best for diving & water sports

  • December to April offers the clearest water and best reef visibility.
  • Calm seas make snorkelling, sea walking and boat trips more comfortable.
  • Bioluminescent kayaking is best on moonless dry-season nights.

Travel tips

Book flights, hotels and ferries well ahead for the December–January peak. Carry cash as ATMs are limited on Havelock and Neil, and expect patchy mobile signal on the outer islands (BSNL and Airtel work best).
