They offer different pleasures. A Halong or Lan Ha Bay cruise is about dramatic karst scenery, kayaking and caves over one or two nights. A Mekong river cruise is slower and cultural, drifting past markets and village life. Many travellers include one of each for north-and-south contrast.
A single overnight is the popular Halong choice and covers the highlights comfortably. A two-night cruise reaches quieter waters like Bai Tu Long or Lan Ha, with more kayaking, swimming and time to unwind, ideal for honeymooners and slow travellers.
Northern bay cruises depart near Hanoi (HAN), about a three-hour transfer; Mekong cruises run from near Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) in the south. India connects with direct flights from some metros or a 1-stop, and we plan the domestic hop between north and south.
Halong is best October to April when the north is cool and dry, while the southern Mekong is most pleasant November to April in its dry season. We plan your dates so both cruises enjoy the calmest conditions.
Indian passport holders need a Vietnam e-Visa, typically issued within three to five working days. Holiday Vibez assists with the application; issuance is always at the authorities' discretion, so apply early.
