Vietnam stretches so far north to south that there's no single 'best' month, only the best time for where you're going. Broadly, October to April is the popular window, but the north, centre and south each run to their own rhythm. This guide breaks the seasons down by region so you can pick dates that suit your route. Holiday Vibez will always sense-check your plans and suggest the smoothest timing.

Northern Vietnam

Hanoi, Halong Bay, Sapa and Ninh Binh share a cooler, four-season climate. Aim for October to April for dry, comfortable days; midwinter can be misty and chilly, which many find atmospheric. Summers are hot and humid but bring the greenest Sapa rice terraces.

Central Vietnam

Da Nang, Hoi An and Hue are driest and sunniest from February to August, the prime beach months. The flip side is the September–November rainy, typhoon-prone spell, which we generally steer central-coast trips away from.

Southern Vietnam

Ho Chi Minh City, the Mekong Delta, Phu Quoc and Nha Trang run on a tropical wet-dry pattern. The dry season, November to April, is warm and reliable; the wetter months bring short, heavy afternoon showers rather than all-day rain.

Combining regions

For a north-plus-central or full country trip, February to April is the sweet spot, giving decent weather almost everywhere. It's the most reliable window if you want to see several regions in one journey.

Festivals & timing

Tet, the lunar new year in January or February, is festive and colourful but many businesses close and travel gets busy. It's a wonderful cultural experience if you plan around it; we'll flag it when it falls in your dates.
