The hill-country railway offers a slow, cinematic view of Sri Lanka you simply cannot get by road. Gliding past tea pickers, waterfalls and the celebrated Nine Arch Bridge, it turns transport into one of the highlights of the whole trip.
The full line runs between Kandy and Ella, though many guests ride the most scenic stretch between Nanu Oya and Ella. We arrange your seats in advance and coordinate with your private driver, who meets you at the station so your luggage travels by car.
The train runs year round, but the views are clearest and driest from around December to March. Mornings often bring the crispest light, though mist can add its own magic to the highland scenery at any time.
