Takht Sachkhand Sri Hazur Abchalnagar Sahib stands on the bank of the Godavari at Nanded, on the spot where Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru, spent his last days and passed away in 1708 after declaring the Guru Granth Sahib the eternal Guru of the Sikhs. It is one of the five Takhts, the supreme seats of Sikh religious authority, and the only one in the Deccan. The present gurdwara was built between 1832 and 1837 under the patronage of Maharaja Ranjit Singh; its inner sanctum, the Angitha Sahib, marks the place of the Guru's cremation and is finished in gold plate and marble, with weapons and personal relics of the Guru preserved within. Pilgrims come both for the darbar itself and for the cluster of associated gurdwaras around the city — Nagina Ghat, Banda Ghat, Bunga Mai Bhago Ji and others — that trace the Guru's time in Nanded.
October to March is the comfortable window, when the Marathwada heat has eased and days stay mild; April to June is genuinely hot and hard on elders. The largest gathering is around the Guru's Jyoti Jot and Gurta Gaddi Diwas in October–November, when lakhs of pilgrims arrive and the town is packed — moving and worth seeing, but crowded enough that accommodation must be booked well in advance and mobility is difficult for the very old. For a quiet darshan, come on ordinary days in the cooler months.
Nanded has its own railway station, Hazur Sahib Nanded (station code NED), a short auto or taxi ride from the gurdwara, with direct trains from Amritsar, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Chennai. Nanded's Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Airport lies just outside the city, but scheduled flights there have been intermittent, so most pilgrims fly into Hyderabad (roughly 270–285 km, about 5–6 hours by road) or Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar / Aurangabad (roughly 250 km). By road, state and private buses run to Nanded from Hyderabad, Aurangabad, Pune, Latur and Nagpur; taxis from Hyderabad are the usual choice for families travelling together.
This is a gurdwara, so the usual sangat discipline applies to everyone: shoes are left outside, hands and feet are washed, and the head must be covered by men, women and children alike — a scarf or the cloth provided at the entrance is fine. Tobacco in any form, along with alcohol, must not be carried onto the premises; this is a firm religious prohibition, not a request. The innermost vault of the Angitha Sahib is entered only by the appointed granthi. Photography rules inside the darbar and any timings for specific ceremonies should be confirmed with the Takht office before you travel.

Why is Hazur Sahib important compared with other gurdwaras?
It is one of the five Takhts of Sikhism and the place where Guru Gobind Singh passed away in 1708, after conferring permanent Guruship on the Guru Granth Sahib. That decision, made at Nanded, ended the line of human Gurus, which is why the site carries authority beyond that of an ordinary gurdwara.
Is accommodation available for pilgrims at Nanded?
Yes. The Takht runs pilgrim accommodation and a langar, and there are hotels and dharamshalas across the town. Around the October–November anniversary the town fills up completely, so book weeks ahead if you are travelling then. Room availability and charges should be checked directly with the Takht's own booking office.
Can non-Sikhs visit the shrine?
Yes — the gurdwara is open to visitors of every faith. What is expected is that you cover your head, remove your shoes, and carry no tobacco or alcohol into the complex. No agent or operator can arrange special or faster entry; the sangat moves in a single queue and everyone waits the same.
