Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya is the site that Hindu tradition holds to be the birthplace of Rama, the seventh avatar of Vishnu, on the bank of the Sarayu river. The deity in the sanctum is Ram Lalla, Rama in his child form, installed at the consecration of the new temple on 22 January 2024 and cared for by the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra trust. The temple is built in the Nagara style with carved sandstone pillars, five mandapas leading to the garbhagriha, and a raised plinth reached by a broad flight of steps. Its best-known feature is the Surya Tilak arrangement of mirrors and lenses, which on Ram Navami directs a beam of noon sunlight onto the forehead of the idol.
October to March is the comfortable window, with daytime temperatures roughly 12-25°C and cool, sometimes foggy mornings by the Sarayu ghats; summers are very hot and the monsoon is humid. Deepotsav around Diwali (October-November), when lakhs of lamps are lit along the ghats, and Ram Navami (March-April) are the two great festivals, and both draw punishing crowds, with rooms scarce and expensive and darshan queues running for hours. For a calm visit with the same good weather, early December or late January are the easier weeks.
Maharishi Valmiki International Airport, Ayodhya Dham (AYJ) is about 10 km from the temple; Lucknow's airport, roughly 135 km away, is the larger hub with more flight options and is connected by a good highway. Ayodhya Dham Junction is the nearest railhead at around 2 km, with Ayodhya Cantt (Faizabad) about 7 km away; autos, e-rickshaws and taxis wait outside both. By road Ayodhya sits on the Lucknow-Gorakhpur corridor and is commonly combined with Varanasi, about 200 km to the south-east.
Mobile phones, bags, cameras and other belongings are not permitted inside the temple; free deposit counters and lockers are provided at the entry, so carry as little as possible. Modest dress is expected — traditional Indian attire is the norm, and shorts and sleeveless clothing are best avoided. The sanctum is on a raised plinth reached by steps; free wheelchairs with an attendant are available for elderly and differently-abled pilgrims, and one family member may accompany them. Confirm darshan arrangements with the temple before you travel, as the complex is still being extended and rules are revised from time to time.

Can a travel agent arrange VIP or special darshan at Ram Mandir?
No. Entry and queue management are handled entirely by the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra trust and the temple administration. Anyone promising to obtain, reserve or speed up your darshan is misleading you. We can arrange your travel, stay and local transport, and get you to the queue early — the darshan itself is the temple's to give.
Is the temple fully completed?
The ground floor sanctum with Ram Lalla was consecrated in January 2024 and has been open to pilgrims since. Work on the upper levels and the surrounding shrines of the complex has continued after that, so parts of the site may be under construction or newly opened when you visit. Check the current position with the temple before you plan.
Can elderly parents manage the visit?
Yes, with some planning. The approach involves walking a fair distance through the security and queue corridors and climbing steps to the plinth, but free wheelchairs with volunteer assistance are available and go up to the sanctum, and one person may accompany each wheelchair. Avoid Ram Navami and Deepotsav weeks, when the crush is severe.
What else can we see in Ayodhya on the same trip?
Hanuman Garhi, Kanak Bhawan, Nageshwarnath Temple and the Sarayu ghats for the evening aarti are all within a short ride of the Ram Mandir, and most families cover them across a day and a half. Ayodhya also pairs easily with Varanasi and Prayagraj on a longer yatra.
