Tulsi Manas Temple is a white-marble shrine to Rama in the Durga Kund area of Varanasi, built in 1964 by the Sureka family of Howrah and inaugurated by Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, then President of India. It stands at the spot traditionally held to be where Goswami Tulsidas composed the Ramcharitmanas in the 16th century, retelling Rama's story in Awadhi so that ordinary people could hear it in their own speech. The sanctum holds Rama with Sita, Lakshmana and Hanuman, but the temple's most distinctive feature is its walls: the verses of the Ramcharitmanas are engraved into the marble, panel after panel, with painted scenes from the epic alongside them. It is a modern temple rather than an ancient one, and pilgrims usually visit it together with the nearby Durga and Sankat Mochan temples as part of a Kashi round.
October to March is the comfortable stretch in Varanasi, with cool, dry days that suit elders walking between the Durga Kund temples; April to June is very hot and best avoided. Ram Navami, in March or April, is the temple's biggest day, with recitations of the Ramcharitmanas and heavy crowds. The Sawan months of July and August are associated with the temple's puppet and tableau displays of the Ramayana, though the rain and the general Sawan rush in Kashi make the city crowded.
Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport at Babatpur is about 26 km northwest of the city, roughly 30 km by road from the temple. Varanasi Junction (Varanasi Cantt) is the main railhead, about 7-9 km away; Banaras and Varanasi City stations are also options. The temple sits on Sankat Mochan Road near Durga Kund, roughly 250 m from Durga Kund, about 700 m from Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple and around 1.3 km from Banaras Hindu University, so autos and taxis reach the gate easily.
The Ramayana tableau and puppet gallery is on the upper floor and is reached by stairs, which matters if elders are in the group; it is not always running, so confirm with the temple before you travel if that display is the reason for your visit.

Did Tulsidas really write the Ramcharitmanas here?
Tradition holds that Goswami Tulsidas composed the Ramcharitmanas at this site in the 16th century, and the temple was built in 1964 to mark it. The building itself is modern; the association with Tulsidas is what the temple commemorates.
Is Tulsi Manas Temple worth visiting if we have already seen Kashi Vishwanath?
Yes, if you care about the Ramayana. It is a quiet, spacious marble temple where the whole Ramcharitmanas is engraved on the walls, and it is a very different experience from the crowded Vishwanath corridor. It also sits within walking distance of Durga Kund and Sankat Mochan, so all three fit into one morning.
How much time should we keep for it?
Most families spend around half an hour to an hour, longer if they stop to read the engraved verses or see the upper-floor Ramayana displays. Timings and the availability of the upper gallery change, so confirm with the temple before you travel.
