Chintpurni, in Una district of Himachal Pradesh, is the shrine of Mata Chintpurni, worshipped here in her form as Chhinnamastika Devi. It is counted among the Shakti Peethas, the sites where, tradition holds, parts of Sati's body fell as Shiva carried her — sources differ on which part is ascribed to Chintpurni. There is no carved idol in the sanctum; the goddess is present as a pindi, a rounded stone, which is what pilgrims come to see. The name means "she who removes worry", and the temple is known above all for the mannat: devotees tie a red thread near the shrine when they make a wish, and return to untie it when the wish is granted. The shrine is traditionally traced to Pandit Mai Das, whose descendants have served as its priests for generations, and it stands on a ridge of the Sola Singhi range near the Punjab border.
March to April and September to October are the most comfortable months, with mild hill weather — but these are also the Chaitra and Ashwin Navratri fairs, when Chintpurni draws very large crowds from Punjab, Haryana and Himachal and the wait at the sanctum can be long. A third fair falls in the Shrawan Navratra (July-August), in the middle of the monsoon. Families travelling with elders who would rather avoid the press of crowds should pick an ordinary weekday outside Navratri and outside the July-August rains. Rooms in and around the town are scarce during all three fairs, so book well ahead.
The nearest railhead is Amb Andaura, roughly 20 km away, with Una about 55 km and Hoshiarpur in Punjab about 45 km out; taxis and local buses run from all three. The closest airport is Gaggal (Kangra) at roughly 65 km, though flights are limited — most travellers fly into Chandigarh, about 170 km away, and drive up. By road the temple sits about 3 km off the Hoshiarpur-Dharamsala highway at Bharwain, and is well served by Himachal and Punjab state buses.
The last stretch to the sanctum is on foot through a narrow bazaar lane with a short uphill walk and steps; vehicles stop below. Elderly pilgrims should plan for this and allow extra time. Mobile phones, cameras and leather items are usually not permitted inside the sanctum area and must be left at the cloakrooms outside. Darshan hours and arrangements change around the Navratri fairs, so confirm with the temple before you travel.

Yes, Chintpurni is counted among the Shakti Peethas and is worshipped as the seat of Chhinnamastika Devi. Different traditional accounts name different parts of Sati's body as having fallen here, so you will see the detail told more than one way at the site itself.
What is the red thread that people tie at Chintpurni?
It is the mannat. A devotee ties a red thread near the shrine while making a wish, and vows to come back and untie it once the wish is fulfilled. Many families make a second trip to Chintpurni purely to untie a thread tied years earlier.
How much walking is involved, and can elderly pilgrims manage it?
Vehicles park below the temple and the last stretch is a short uphill walk through the bazaar with some steps. It is manageable for most people at an easy pace, but if someone in the family cannot walk or climb, plan for assistance and go on a non-fair day when the lane is not packed.
Can Chintpurni be combined with other shrines in the same trip?
Yes. Chintpurni is commonly done as part of a Himachal Shakti Peetha circuit along with Jwalamukhi, Brajeshwari at Kangra and Chamunda Devi, all within a few hours' drive, and many pilgrims add Naina Devi in Bilaspur. A three to four day itinerary covers the group comfortably.
