The Mekong Delta offers a window into a way of life shaped entirely by water. Floating markets, sampan rides and welcoming villages make it one of southern Vietnam's most memorable experiences, and a perfect escape from the city.
The delta begins a couple of hours south of Ho Chi Minh City by road. We arrange transfers and boats from Saigon, whether for a day trip or an overnight to reach the best floating markets.
The delta is best from November to April, the dry season, with pleasant days for cruising. It is warm year-round, and even in wetter months rain tends to fall in short bursts.
The signature experience is an early floating market such as Cai Rang, best reached from Can Tho. Combine it with sampan rides through the coconut canals and orchard visits for a full delta day.
The delta brims with tropical fruit and river fish. Try elephant-ear fish, fresh spring rolls, coconut candy and rice-paper snacks, often enjoyed at riverside gardens.
