A boat carries you to a nearby sandbank — a natural sand island that surfaces at low tide. Staff set up a parasol, seating and your picnic, then leave you to swim, snorkel and sunbathe in complete privacy. Timing follows the tide, so your resort will pick the best window on the day.
Fly to Malé (MLE) — there are direct flights from several Indian metros, around 1.5–3 hours from the south and 3–4.5 hours from Delhi and Mumbai. From Malé, a speedboat or seaplane takes you to your island; the sandbank is a short boat ride from there.
November to April brings the calmest, sunniest weather and the clearest lagoons for a sandbank day. May to October is wetter with passing showers but better value. Low tide is when the sandbank is largest, so the exact timing is set locally.
Indian travellers enjoy visa-free entry — a free 30-day visa is stamped on arrival. Carry a valid passport, a return ticket and your accommodation confirmation and you are set.
There is no shade beyond your parasol, so pack reef-safe sunscreen, a hat and plenty of water. Take everything back with you to keep the sandbank pristine, and bring a dry bag for cameras and phones.
