How to Reach Bhutan from India
Your practical guide to flying into Paro or crossing overland into Bhutan
Reaching Bhutan is part of the adventure, and there are two main ways in. Most travellers fly into Paro International Airport (PBH) on the national carriers Drukair and Bhutan Airlines, from gateways such as Kolkata, Delhi, Guwahati and Bagdogra; the descent into Paro is one of the most dramatic in the world. Alternatively you can travel overland via Phuentsholing on the southern border, a scenic route from West Bengal. From South India you'll usually connect through one of these hubs, and whichever way you arrive, we arrange your Bhutan entry permit.

Suggested itinerary
Connect via Kolkata, Delhi, Guwahati or Bagdogra and fly Drukair or Bhutan Airlines into Paro, then drive to Thimphu.
Reach the southern border town of Phuentsholing by road or rail-and-road via West Bengal, complete permit formalities and drive up to Thimphu.
Fly from cities such as Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad or Kochi to a gateway like Kolkata or Delhi, then onward to Paro.
With your entry permit arranged, meet your guide and vehicle for the scenic transfer into the valleys.

Flying into Paro
The quickest route is to fly into Paro (PBH) on Drukair or Bhutan Airlines. Flights operate from Indian gateways including Kolkata, Delhi, Guwahati and Bagdogra, plus some Asian cities. Paro's runway sits in a valley, so only specially trained pilots operate the memorable daytime approach.
Travelling overland
You can also enter by road via Phuentsholing on the southern border, roughly a day's drive from Thimphu. Many combine a flight to Bagdogra or a train to nearby Hasimara with the onward road journey. It is slower but scenic and can be lighter on the wallet.
Getting there from South India
There are no direct flights from South India to Bhutan, so travellers from Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad or Kochi typically connect through Kolkata or Delhi before flying to Paro. We help plan sensible connections around your Bhutan dates.
Entry permit and documents
Indian nationals do not need a visa. You enter on an Entry Permit plus the Sustainable Development Fee, currently ₹1,200 per person per night (subject to change; children discounted, under-6 exempt), carrying a valid passport or Voter ID and passport-size photos. Holiday Vibez arranges the entry permit as part of your package.

Thousands of families and couples across South India have travelled with us — here's what a few of them had to say.
Travelling with my parents and two kids, I was nervous. Holiday Vibez planned every single day perfectly, and the Alleppey houseboat was the highlight. We are already planning our next trip with them.
Best price I found anywhere, and the desert safari and Burj Khalifa tickets were all sorted before we even landed. The team was on WhatsApp whenever I had a question.
The Gulmarg gondola, the shikara ride on Dal Lake — exactly like the photos, no surprises at all. By the end of the trip our driver felt like family.
Booked a fairly last-minute Phuket trip and they still got me a great deal with visa help included. Honest, smooth and genuinely helpful people.
Scuba at Havelock was a dream come true. Every transfer and every hotel was exactly as promised. Worth every rupee, and I have already recommended them to friends.
